Knitted dresses for pear shapes

I have had a knitted dress on my wish list for some time, but cant seem to find one that would suit my age and shape and isnt hideously pricey.

I am early (just!)forties, shortish and unfortunately more rounded than I should be, especially aound the hips.(12/14)

I really like a few of the knitted dresses in the boden sale a while ago, but wasnt quick enough off the mark and now the only colour left is yellow. I cant justify buying full priced boden.

I'd be grateful if anyone had any suggestions.

How pear are you? My honest opinion is that they don't actually suit true pears. You need to have broad shoulders/ decent sized knockers to balance it out. If you do then that's cool. Gap usually have nice ones. Not too tight fitted and slightly above the knee would be nice.

Dresses that do suit true pears are ones that tie at the waist and then have a fuller skirt.

Have you got lovely thin calfs? If so full skirts/skirted dresses will look really lovely

Thanks Sif - I fear you may be right and I am coverting a new shape rather than just a new dress!

I know the yellow dress you mean, it was a straightish style wasn't it? I think straightish styles can work well as they sort of skim over the pear, I am a bit pear shaped (so is my life) and they seem to work OK for me. Is yellow realloy out? That dress is nice and a bargain. Could you accessorise with navy blue to tone it down a bit, am thinking navy scarf looped and knotted, navy tights, maybe belt and chunky beads, although not necessarily all at once!

www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/Sale/Womens-Dresses/Dresses/WH130/Womens-Chic-Knitted-Dress.html?Add=968218 this one is lined on the bottom so not clingy, if bright colours suit you they have the purple in 12 and 14. I would wear a high, round neck vest top under it to be more flattering with smaller boobs, maybe a black top and wear with black boots?

I dont think I have worn yellow since I was about 10! I didnt even think about it being a possibility, but now you are making me think again, MrsBean.

Lined is good, Naomi.

Maybe I should be reckless and order both with least sucessful going back.

I am just so bored with my "uniform" - v necked sweater, A line knee-length skirt or wide legged trews. Add on the losing battle with increasing amount of grey in my hair and I suspect I could be having a mid-life image crisis.

for your shape... i'm similar... a knit dress with a luxurious cowl neck that can go over your shoulders, that would balance it out nicely...
this sort of style but without the buttons.

I once bought a yellow Boden 'favoruite cardigan' as it was the only colour/ size option left, and have become rather fond of it. But you're right, it's just not a colour you usually think of wearing. It can look good though.

I really like yellow.
I know what you mean about being bored of uniforms.

What about round neck fitted sweaters with full pleaty skirts and heels/boots. that would suit you nice sacrf or something on top too...

What do you think of these? Nice with thick tights and Mary Jane's?
here
and here
probably need a vest/cami underneath though, possibly a wide belt for the plain one

sifuentes · 27/02/2009 10:44

Oo i really like them. Not seen them in my local NL. Ta!
