Calling ladies who know about perfumes...

I'm off to buy a new perfume today and would appreciate some reccomendations for ones to try. I have owned Angel, Escape, Burberry Brit and Casmir by Chopard and loved all of them but does anyone have any suggestions for something else I might like?
Cheers

you would probably like Tresor by Lancome - similar IMO.

glitteryprincess · 22/02/2009 11:00

Thanks Donnie, I like that one too but wore it as a teen many moons ago.

coco madamesoille?? lush

Bucharest · 22/02/2009 11:20

Byblos Cielo.
A bit similar to Angel but a bit lighter...

Cheaper too.

cherryblossoms · 22/02/2009 11:37

Wow! That was, I think, almost telepathic of Donnie - she knows what you like.

I don't know all of the perfumes you list but I'm wondering if you like "sexy", "edible" perfumes? The googleable term for which is "gourmand".

You could try googling that and see what comes up. I looked quickly and saw some familiar faces - Jo Malone "Nutmeg and Ginger" and Serge Lutens "5 O'Clock Gingembre" - but I suspect those don't have enough oomph for you.

Also saw Miller Harris "Figue Amere" and Diptyque "Philosykos", and Bond No. 9, which I don't really know. Apparently there's a Comme des Garcons "Sticky Cake" too, which must be worth a look. Some of these are a bit "niche" and you may have to trek off to a large department store/Space NK to find them - on the plus side, you'll smell unique.

If you are in London, Liberty stocks (or did) Keiko Mecheri. I remember trying a peach scent and wonder if you'd like it. KM's "Loukhoum" comes up in lots of reviews.

Long shots:

"Aimez-Moi" - Caron - edible but perhaps too violet and girly (my friend described it as "simpering" - but I love it) fo you.
"Divin Enfant" - Etat l'ibre d'Orange - edible but, again, quite unsophisticated, not really quite as adult as the others.
"L'air de Rien" - Miller Harris - not very foody, not much oomph - but strangely sexy.

I'm wondering, too, about Vivienne Westwood. I don't know any of her perfumes but she must surely have something in this category?

Time to get sniffing - have fun!

Ta Swifty and Bucharest, will try those and yes Donnie obv has a good nose for perfumes! If I remember right Tresor is a bit like Chopard...

Cheers Cherryblossoms, I do like edible scents and I think musky/vanilla/chocolatey smells are are what I'm into. I'm near Oxford St so will prob head to Selfridges for a mooch round. Thanks for all your suggestions, I'm writing em down and will keep an eye out.
Enjoy your Sunday everyone! x

I must be too, I really love the heavy ones.

Let us know what you buy!

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 22/02/2009 16:02

My current favourite is Paul Smith Rose. Its incredible. Very rich with a gorgeous wood/earth base.

donnie · 22/02/2009 16:35

there is a lovely one by Elizabeth Taylor but annoyingly I can't remember if it is diamonds and sapphires or diamonds and emeralds. I recently tried to get some but they don't even sell it in selfridges anymore!!! it smells like melons - that sounds yuk I know, but it is swoonsome....if only I could remember which one it is then get my hands on some!

anyway, you'd like that I'm sure.

Coco chanel is also lovely.

glitteryprincess · 22/02/2009 18:48

Hi Girlies, well I ended up in Brent Cross today and sniffed zillions but only squirted my faves on me... which were Vera Wang's Princess, the Nina Ricci red apple one, Viktor and Rolf's Flowerbomb and Coco Mademoiselle.
I couldn't decide between Flowerbomb and Coco Mademoiselle so I've come home to let the OH have a sniff and I'll go with his choice, unless anyone else has a better suggestion.
Oh and although it's off topic I found a couple of gorgeous juicy tubes... banana which is yellow but goes on clear smells like banana milkshake and fraise the perfect shade for olive skinned brunettes like me, do recommend both.
Thanks to all for replying, it really narrowed it down for me.

So glad you came back!

It was lovely to enjoy a virtual perfume-shopping experience.

Hope you love what you eventually get.

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 22/02/2009 22:04

Flowerbomb is gorgeous! Which one did OH prefer?

glitteryprincess · 23/02/2009 08:42

Sorry didn't see this last night, OH preferred Flowerbomb, so off to buy a bottle today.

MrsSeanBean · 23/02/2009 17:32

Also try....
So Pretty by Cartier
Vera Wang by (unsurprisingly) Vera Wang
Kelly Caleche - Hermes

MrsSeanBean · 23/02/2009 17:33

Donnie - I think it was White Diamonds - unless there was a spin-off range of other jewels.
