Oh God, why can't I stay away from the Boden sale - just bought a lilac velvet coat..

Have never owned such a thing in my life. Will people snigger at me in the street? I fear it will be going straight back.

Also bought the leopard print ballet shoes this morning. Could I be having a midlife wardrobe crisis??

don't wear the two together is my advice!

OracleInaCoracle · 18/02/2009 14:51

links please!

kettlechip · 18/02/2009 14:56

ok.. here they are, and no I would never wear the two together! Strictly plain clothes with each, I have in my mind they would be statement pieces, are they vile though??..

I do like the coat - and not too immedietely Bodeny, either. The shoes I'm less sure about.

OracleInaCoracle · 18/02/2009 14:59

i like the shoes, not keen on the coat though!

kettlechip · 18/02/2009 15:01

me too.. it was an impulse thing based on the rave reviews they got. I'm imagining them with jeans and a plain l/s t shirt. It was free delivery and returns so no loss if they need to go back.

Love the coat! But not the shoes

TheThoughtPolice · 18/02/2009 15:03

Love the shoes but the coat is not me, I'm afraid. It looks a bit shapeless and too short in the arm.

kettlechip · 18/02/2009 15:18

Looks like I've bought the sartorial equivalent of Marmite..

i like the shoes, prefer the coat in green or brown liliac doesn't do it for me!

dexter73 · 18/02/2009 15:26

I like the shoes and wanted to get some but my dh said they were the sort of thing middle aged women wear to try and look funky so I gave them a miss!

MorrisZapp · 18/02/2009 16:47

That's not a coat, it's a jacket, surely? Looks lovely though.

nailpolish · 18/02/2009 17:03

omg tgese are truly hideous!

nailpolish · 18/02/2009 17:05

just as awful

i do qite like the velvet coat though
the velvet blazer is nice too
and some of the winter coats

and the shoes/boots are ok too but as for the skirts and trousers...
a bit grannyish in skirt length/design/patterns imo

kettlechip · 18/02/2009 19:17

dexter that's exactly what worries me! It's like Per Una syndrome.
I'm only early 30's and hopefully look no older so fingers crossed I can get away with it. I own nothing else which has leopard print on it fwiw!

nailpolish, I swear my parents used to have a caravan with curtains in the fabric of those first cropped trousers you linked to (it was the late 70's).. Not what I'd wish for in an item of clothing. How have they sold out? Who buys these things?

OP posts:
MrsSeanBean · 18/02/2009 19:24

Great buys... the longer velvet coat was a ledge I understand - you go girl!

onebatmother · 18/02/2009 19:37

lol ledge.
I do loathe the way they write though... "with a fun lining" indeed. I will decide if it's fun or - as I rather suspect - heart-breaking.

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 18/02/2009 20:21

Not keen on the coat/jacket but am loving the shoes. I have super wide feet though so have never even bothered ordering shoes from Boden.

As for those "smart wide leg crops".........they have "comfy" written all over them - and not in a good way

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 19/02/2009 00:10

The shoes are not my cup of tea - but the coat is lovely. It looks strange on the model though, kind of gathered above the boobs, although looks lovely on the pictures of just the coat.

There is a nice blazer in the new collection that I've got my eye on - waiting for the sale though.

kettlechip · 24/02/2009 19:16

well after all that, they both arrived on Saturday and got sent straight back. The shoes are really nice quality, but not quite me (couldn't get the middle aged comment out of my head), and the jacket was a lovely colour but massive and I couldn't have buttoned it up without looking nine months gone.

But on the bright side I managed to get hold of some gorgeous blue patent shoes which I love to bits and am keeping..!

ramonaquimby · 24/02/2009 19:17

there are still things in the sale?!?!

kettlechip · 24/02/2009 19:19

yes, a few nice bits amongst the dregs. If you're after something it's worth checking every day as the stock seems to come back in (am guessing due to returns) Got a few bits for ds which had previously sold out.

I am now holding you responsible for me buying a wrap dress!!
Love the jacket

kettlechip · 24/02/2009 20:23

oops sorry!!
Wrap dresses you say.. off to have another look!
