Hi

I haven't posted in this section before (though have taken up many of the tips that have gone around ) but hope someone can advise!

Have gone very dark brown in last couple of months - have had highlighted blonde hair for years but was starting to get rather crispy so went back to natural colour - and I think probably even darker than natural colour the last time, a couple of weeks ago.

However, I am not not sure about it any more, think I kind of suit it, but feel v dull and a bit washed out looking now. It looks a bit sort of flat, though is still shiny, if this makes sense, and in good condition now.

DH remaining silent but says both colours are great, (which means he hates it!) Friends have also said they hate it!

I do suit blonde hair, am quite fair and have blue eyes, eyebrows are medium / dark though.

What I want to know is - can I get some blonde put back in, or lighter low lights iyswim, even just to break it up a bit, and brighten me up too. I don't want the stripy look though!

Have put on an appt with hairdresser tomorrow - though usual girl on hol - so am doubly anxious and tempted to cancel in case my hair goes pink / falls out or something!

The last time, a couple of weeks ago, my hairdresser was a bit reluctant for me to go lighter, said it would be v drastic and we should try it gradually, which is fine.(though not sure why she did my hair even darker this time..)
But now can't wait til next appt to start process, hence appt tomorrow..

Has anyone else gone back to blonde from dark brown, or lightened it a little, without it being a disaster?

Thanks for your help!
PS out with ds in a while so may not get back for ages

I had a bit of a life crisis last autumn and died my hair brown after a good few years as a blonde (highlighted).

Just after Xmas I went to the hairdresser and said that I wanted to go a bit blonder so she put some dark blond highlights in.

I was there again yesterday and said "blonder!" but my hairdresser said that I am blond enough for my colouring and he won't do it much lighter. Since I am scared of him, I agreed and I am quite happy wiht the colour, would like it a bit blonder but it will lighten in the sun anyway.

You could have streaks put in without it looking stripy. Mine is a bit strawberry blonde at the moment. (pic on profile)

thanks for this MmeLindt - am pining now as mine was similar colour to yours before going dark! (don't take this wrong way, but agree with your hd re not going blonder - you really suit the shade you have!)

No, I am too scared of my hd to go blonder. He won't cut my hair the way I ask him either, but it always looks great so I forgive him.

How dark is your hair now? Really dark? Might be difficult to go back to blonde quickly.

So annoying, I got my hair cut short at the same time and I can't wait for it to grow back out.

Yes, tis really dark, think I have been having a bit of a crisis too!

Not even sure I want to go back to the same level of blondeness, just somewhere in between, if that exists! Am thinking dark blonde / caramel ish..

Will check back later for any more words of wisdom, off to wake up ds..

It will take quite a bit of work, but if you're happy to go caramel in the meantime that would be your best bet. It shouldn't look stripey if it's woven finely enough, should just give you enough of a lift until your next appointment.
