Nursing bras

I have just seen a photo of me taken on a day when I thought I looked nice. My breasts looks like they're being squeezed out of my bra .

I have been measured in Mothercare 3 times and am currently wearing 36E but my boobs are still kind of hanging over the top (sounds nice doesn't it)

I only plan to bf for another few months so I don't want to spend masses of money but any suggestions would be great.

Thanks very much!
MM

I found Hot Milk and Elle Macpherson bras both v good when breastfeeding. Although not the cheapest they both lasted well after endlessly going through the wash (unlike the cheaper ones from Mothercare and M&S). I got them from figleaves.com which also have a good range of other nursing and maternity bras. EachPeachPearMum - my Hot Milk bra has about 4 fittings at the back and is more sizeable than others, I bought 36D (wish I still was!) but I think 34C would have fitted fine. With figleaves you can return bras if they're not right - I don't live near many stockists either.

Thanks Whistlejacket.

monkeysmama- I have two hotmilk bras that I bought in a sale online and wore once each as I did not get one with them. You are welcome to them for cost of postage if you want them? They are 36F (which is size bigger in cup but sounds like you might need it?) and one is pink with light pink trimming and flowery embroidery and the other is black with a grey pattern. They feel truly gorgeous but I found them a bit bouncy iyswim. I had no idea what to do with them as I dont know anyone same size. Is is odd to pass on bras? They really are as new, but if it is, please ignore!!

My fav bra is emma jane ones. Sooooo not glamourous but v comfy!

EachPeachPearMum · 18/02/2009 23:01

um.... bouncy?
please explain?

I only recently stopped breastfeeding and went through a number of different brands of bras. Stay away from Mothercare and M & S for getting measured. They are apalling!!!

I actually got the best measuring service from Debenhams. Loved Elle Macpherson, but when my breasts got really huge, I found Freya were the best. Didn't buy them from Debenhams, though. Opted for Upliftedlingerie.co.uk They were BRILLIANT and cheaper than anywhere else.

I did waste money on bras from M & S , Royce etc. Don't make my mistake.

Hope this helps.

Good thing with Freya, is the thick straps.

hotmilk are definitely on the generous side which is a shame as some styles only start at 32 back which is more like a 34. it's not easy to tell which is which from pics but some styles are more stretchy, others are firmer (all have some give, but the larger cup sizes are more supportive in the firmer styles). i would say the stretchy styles are 1 cup size larger than average, while the less stretchy ones are about true to size.

the bands are generally very stretchy, with 4 or 5 hooks at the back so a good 2" adjustment.

re milk stains have you tried putting it out in sun/daylight? that works for bf poo on nappies, not sure about straight milk.

Thankyou falcon! very useful

Dragonhart · 19/02/2009 22:44

Monkeysmama- have emailed you.

Eachpeach- I think maybe they were too big for me in cup size? When I jumped up and down on the spot, my boobs bounced. Prob a size down would have fitted but by then they were sold out!

I also have nightmare bra shopping - try bravissimo as I have never had a problem with their fitting service. You could try John Lewis & other old fashioned department stores as they always seem to know what they are doing! However bravissimo dont have much choice. I had no luck in Mothercare - I think their sales assistants are too generally trsined - you need to find somewhere where the bra fitters only fit bras.

The best fitters amazingly are the ones that dont actally measure you but look at you in your current bra.

The best feeding bras I had were from bras4mums.co.uk/or com (cant remember) She fitted me at the Earls crt baby show but is based up north somewhere. If you are local she will come out to you.

The NCT also do a home fitting service in some areas check their website.
