Can anyone recommend a hairbrush for children's hair?

DD screams at the slight hint of any pull on her hair - I just use a normal hairbrush when brushing her hair.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a 'softer' hairbrush that will make hairbrushing a less unpleasant experience for us both?!

They are v expensive but Mason Pearson are fab - We got G Parents to give dd one for Christmas

Can second the tangle teezer, even works on dd's afro hair

Pawslikepaddington · 16/02/2009 17:12

Ooh I don't envy you clairey!

claireybeemine · 16/02/2009 17:14

It can be a nightmare! Am dreading if she gets nits...

MissisBoot · 16/02/2009 17:17

ooh - I've never seen the tangle teezer before - how does it work? What makes it different to a normal brush?

Oh god-I went through dd's hair with one of the nitty gritty combs to check her hair, and you would have thought I was killing her-it was awful-she has blonde straight hair! I cut it into a bob that night!

Agree with tangle teezer - dd now brushes her own hair with the minumum of fuss.

Pawslikepaddington · 16/02/2009 17:20

I have no idea how it works but it is SO good! And place your hand at the top of her neck over her hair and do the ends (so it doesn't pull on the roots when brushing) and then do the roots. Also don't pull at the knots/ends, kind of pat them (or in my mind stab them out-I hate knots!) with the brush-don't know why it works but it does!

OMG - I bought a tangle teezer today - its fantastic! DD has just sat there and let me brush her hair with out any noise whatsoever!

I love mumsnet

I think I should get one for DD

Pawslikepaddington · 18/02/2009 10:33

I must admit, I did lop dd's hair off anyway after buying a TT, as dd is prone to chewing her hair so it used to stick like glue constantly, so now she can't get it to her mouth! She does brush her own hair now though (properly) which is lovely!

Another vote for the tangle teezer here - it's fab.

BonsoirAnna · 18/02/2009 11:27

Mason Pearson - the softest one (there are lots of different types/strengths of bristle).

Sazisi · 18/02/2009 17:20

Headhog brushes (boots stock them) seem to meet with the least resistance from my horrible lot.
Mason Pearson are v. pricey (you'll go berserk if they lose it at swimming), difficult to clean and not great on curly hair.

We've always had a mason pearson in the house and last year my best friend gave us one that she had bought and not used. We love it!
