Cream Blusher - your thoughts please

Katiekitty · 16/02/2009 15:31

I've got the world's dryest cheeks at the moment and being a massive blusher wearer, I find myself in a pickle. I can't possibly give up the rouge, so can anyone convince me of the wonders of cream blush?

Note - I can't get on with the shiny look, so please help me reach a happy compromise

I got a Bobbi Brown one. I use a foundation brush to apply it, when I use fingers it looks v unnatural!

i think it looks more natural than powder - if you use a brush!

VincenzotheBanker · 16/02/2009 17:11

yes i too haev lizard skin. The mac one cremeblush is divine.
it is shiny though in a GOOD way.
powdery is so ealy 90s

staggerlee · 16/02/2009 17:13

Max Factor do a great cream blusher called 'miracle touch'-its a tiny pot but lasts for ages.

orangina · 16/02/2009 17:22

I have a lovely NARS cream blusher... it is my favourite...

SobranieCocktail · 16/02/2009 17:33

There's a Boot's "Natural Collection" cream blush in a tube which would be good for dry skin. It's very sheer and liquidy (but not a "stain"), so is easy peasy to apply. Gives v even coverage with minimal effort.

Don't try No7 cream blush. Their new formula is crap...impossible to blend and it seems to clog in any pores/lines.

TeriHatchetJob · 16/02/2009 17:42

have you thought about a mineral blusher. They are great for dry skin.

I only ever use 'Bare escentuals' mineral make up now (they have websites to buy from or even from QVC). A bit pricey but wouldn't consider anything else now I have, ahem, mature skin.

A good cheaper alternative is the NO 7 new mineral blusher.

VincenzotheBanker · 16/02/2009 17:44

NO they are TERRIBLE on dry skin.

monkeysmama · 16/02/2009 17:46

I have a Clarins' cream blusher I wouldn't reccomend.

I have been having blusher issues recently since I had dd with my regular blusher making me look like aunt Sally.

TeriHatchetJob · 16/02/2009 17:46

Um, no they are not Vince..... Perhaps they just don't suit you or you are talking about the very cheap ones.

Bare escentuals are so fine and perfect for dryer skins.

Sparkletastic · 16/02/2009 17:47

BeneTint is okay for a youthful flush. NARS 'The Multiple' is the best I've tried.

Vincenzo have you been around long? Your posting style reminds me of someone....

VincenzotheBanker · 16/02/2009 18:11

yes i have the nars one too, but mac is better.

higgle · 16/02/2009 18:17

I have a Clinique one, which is good, a Barbara Daly tesco one in a little pot, which is lovely, but I covet the NARS one, colour "Orgasm" and that is the one I'll get next.

VincenzotheBanker · 16/02/2009 18:19

I haev that one. still prefer the mac one - it stays on longer

snooks · 16/02/2009 19:08

Benefit posie tint is glorious. Much better than benetint.

Not a cream or a stain (even tho' they call it a stain) more like gloopy nail polish. It's like putting luminous pink-marker-pen paint on your cheeks (not really selling it am I?)

Makes my 37 yr old skin look dewy and stays put. You can't beat dewy skin [sigh]

Katiekitty · 17/02/2009 12:12

Yep - dewey is what I'm after - I may nip out at lunch today and dabble with some cream blushers - I'm near a MAC, a Boots and a Space NK, though I think I may see how I get on with a less pricy make first.

Here's some questions:

If you powder over a cream blusher, does it undo all the moisturising work?

Can you indeed use it over powder, or will it go all gloopy?

The ones that are more of a 'stain' do they remain on the skin despite all best efforts to remove them at night? I've encountered this with lip stains before...

i've got this maybelline in soft plum. is very good, nice colour and lasts all day on face.

i don't put powder on cheeks.

Katiekitty · 17/02/2009 12:24

Maybe I've got to try and break my powdering habbit! Thing is I have dry, dry, dry cheeks and a shiny nose and chin! Gah! I'll look weird with glowy cheeks and a powdered nose!

Also, does the colour rub off if you kiss anyone? Will they be left with a red face if they move in for a snog? (not that this is likely to happen boo) Just wondering if it'll transfer onto scarves and the like really...

i recommend the benefit one....i use the peachy colour

Sparkletastic · 17/02/2009 13:40

Right - must try the Mac one as Vincenzo has convinced me (nice to see you Vincenzo)! Posie Tint sounds good for spring too. Powdering habit is hard to break Katiekitty - maybe try one of the non-shine cream bases instead - I've got No 7 one at the mo and it is good as long as you use it sparingly but am sure there are better ones to try. Benetint comes off with a cleansing wipe so you aren't left looking like Aunt Sally all night! The good cream blushers don't come off on clothes / nubile young men but my cheapo Maybelline one does.

MinkyBorage · 17/02/2009 13:42

another bobbi brown vote here

fishie · 17/02/2009 13:44

curse you all i am now beset with longing for a mac shiny cheek.

TheOldestCat · 17/02/2009 13:50

Seconding snooks - Benefit's posietint has just breathed some colour and life into my whiter-than-white complexion. It's expensive but you only need a tiny dab to get a bit dewy of cheek.

Katiekitty · 17/02/2009 15:11

I have furnished myself with Max Factor pot of cream blush! It's worth a try and if I like it, I may stick with it, or graduate up to Mac and get theirs! Oooohhh, very excited about creaming my blush (so to speak) I have a tonne of powder on at the moment, so when I get home, I'll remove it and try a lighter touch. Hope I don't go all shiny! Am sorely tempted to try it now, just to see what it's like!

I'll report back with findings...

Am giddy with excitement!

The powder is probably contributing to your dry skin. You should try a light moisturiser, then a serum before you do your base.

Oh and a good night cream.

I live benetint personally, I look ghostly without it.

waitingforgodot · 17/02/2009 15:26

I have a virgin vie cream blush which is fab-lasts for ages as you only need a teeny bit each day.
