I've decided it's time I invested in some ghds but my question is, which size? I have layered, above the shoulder hair but it is really thick and quite coarse (due to the grey)so what do you think, o wise MN ghders?

definitely wide, they are great

smugmumofboys · 14/02/2009 19:52

Thank you for replying. Are they not faffy with the shorter layers? And where did you get yours from.

mine have just broken down actually (sob) after 3 years of INTENSIVE use

I've always found them great as my hair is unruly, I find the narrow ones take longer on mine

I can't remember where I got mine, online somewhere - let me know where you get yours as I need new ones!

smugmumofboys · 14/02/2009 19:58

Thanks. Will do.

I have the wide ones but my hair is longer than shoulder length. I think it depends on how much time you want to spend on straightening your hair, i.e sectioning it off etc. My previous pair were normal sized and it just took a wee bit longer to straighten as I had to make the sectioned off bits smaller. I personally would probably buy the normal sized ones. They get so hot anyway, so it doesnt really matter how grey coarse or thick your hair is ime.

I bought some new ones a few months ago after my first ones broke down after 6 years - I got them from Amazon - cheapest I could find at the time.

smugmumofboys · 14/02/2009 20:01

Thanks! I just wondered as the hairdresser always uses the normal ones and yet the blurb for the wide ones seems to describe my hair.

Will ponder.

Plus I needed them IMMEDIATELY

Snufflebufty · 14/02/2009 20:01

I got mine from the ghd website. Shop around though, you can get some really good deals online. Watch out for fake ones though.

navyeyelasH · 14/02/2009 20:02

I hate my GHDs only udes them about 5 times in 2/3 months. Does anyone find they don't grip?

To answer the OP with shorter layers I'd go for the normal ones, but wider ones are better for coarse hair. If you go to the hairdressers what do they use?

smugmumofboys · 14/02/2009 20:05

Wow. Lots of lovely replies!

I have the wide ones which are great, but the only time i wish they were narrow is when I wanted to try to make curls with them by wrapping my hair round the plates...

dinny · 14/02/2009 20:11

they aren't meant to grip, you just lightly run them over sectioned hair

Leo9 · 14/02/2009 21:08

I have the narrow ones and my hair sounds very similar indeed to yours smugmum. I would highly recommend them, best thing I have EVER had for my hair, and I have bought loads of stuff over the years! Never have a bad hair day ever, now!

I sound like an advert, i know

Go for it - narrower ones work perfectly fine on me

smugmumofboys · 14/02/2009 21:09

Thanks for all the replies folks.

Def go for the normal ones as you can curl and flick etc as well as straighten.

bishboschone · 15/02/2009 13:52

I have very thick coarse curly hair and I have wide ones..It still takes me half an hour to straighten so i would get wide.maybe get some cheap ones for curling..they had thin ones in tescos the other day for £3.00(obv not ghd)
