Another handbag question - I am so useless at this!

I have had the same bag for about 4 years - and I don't have another one! It's now falling to pieces and shabby and I need something more sophisticated as I've started a new job. However, my requirements are:

  1. I seem to have slopey shoulders and every bag I've had falls off constantly which drives me mad. the one I have at the moment is like a mini-rucksack thing...horrid I know but vaguely functional. However, I'm usually embarrassed to wear it as a rucksack as it looks HORRID.
  1. I'm 45 years old, and I have a job which requires me to carry a brief case - I find it hard carrying a handbag fallling off my shoulder and a briefcase and I'm constantly picking up and putting them down trying to get comfy!
  1. I don't like massive bags as I lose things but I do like it to be big enough to carry the usual junk.
  1. I only ever have black handbags as I wear a lot of black and don't think brown (although I love it) goes with my "look".
  1. I don't have a massive budget - I'd spend up to £60 ish pounds...

ANY ideas welcome. I'm the most unfashionable person you've ever met so I just don't have a clue and I wouldn't wear anything too trendy/flash etc.. it's just not me!

THANK YOU

An 'across the body' bag may be the answer. Will have a look around and report back with links...

Have you browsed the John Lewis website? I liked the look of a black patent one in store- £40- biggish but could be worn on shoulder with short straps.

I'd go for a short strap shoulder bag- tucked under your armpit style- and maybe think tan rather than black- or, have a classic work bag and something more "fun" for weekends - look at Axxessorize, Monsoon, next.

I have the radley across the body bag here I have it in light brown and it's been going for yrs.
I know some people hate radley but this plain one is nice.
