Help Me Pls!! Never Ending Greasy Hair. Can't Get it to stay 'dry'

I have a major problem with my hair. If I wash it in the morning, its greasy by 6pm. I've tried switching shampoos a couple of times and I've tried only washing every second day [yuk] and it doesnt seem to help.

I get my hair done every 6mths, by my friend who is a hairdresser, she suggested using washing up liquid once a month, which seems to alleviate the greasiness for a day or two, but isnt really working.

Haven't tried the 'clarifying' shampoos as Im not sure if they would work any better than washing up liquid. Has anyone used them??

Does anyone have a miracle cure??

Antdamm · 13/02/2009 23:23

Have never tried it myself. I think my sister had it for her eczema which was on her scalp.

Have u used it for similar purposes??

Is your hair v long ? Might be worth losing some length

I have horrid itchy flaky scalp if I don't use t gel

Antdamm · 13/02/2009 23:27

my hair is about chin length. I had loads of length hacked off before xmas because i thought it might help, but no

Will deffo give t gel a try though.

Do you have quite thick hair? This might sound silly and/ or obvious, but are you using enough shampoo? It sounds as though maybe you aren't getting the hair 100% clean to start with?
Maybe try some salon products, yes they are costly, but can help make a difference if you have difficult hair, you might be able, if you find one that works, to alternate with a normal product so it will last longer.

i wash my hair every day also very fine and greasy as hell by that evening i cant even wear it up as so greasy looking

my hair dresser said u could get a few higlights through it however that wont dry the roots up

apart from that generally shampoos with lemon in them help a bit but i would stay away from expensive salon shampoo no good in my opinion.

Antdamm · 13/02/2009 23:51

I use oodles and oodles of shampoo on my hair. I have tried using less (cos i thought 2much might be my problem) but it seems to make no difference.

Will enquire to my hairdresser friend - see if there is one she recommends and see if she can get me a sample. No point buying it if i have no idea if it will work

My hair was like this - sometimes it would look greasy an hour after washing!

I now have blonde highlights and this seems to have dried my hair up a bit.

I heard/was told to use about the size of an old ten pence blob of shampoo on your hand.

I have long thick hair and I have suffered from greasy hair, things that work for me... two parts water to one part cider vinegar (organic one is quite pleasant) soak your hair in this, aiming at the roots, leave on for ten mins then shampoo as normal, making sure you don't use very hot water, maybe do this once a month - lovely glossy shiny hair.

Also a very cold rinse at the end after you have made sure you have rinsed out shampoo really well, your scalp should tingle with the coldness... do that every time you wash your hair, but again don't wash your hair in very hot water.

Finally let your hair dry naturally until it is almost dry, don't have your hair drier on the highest heat setting, don't aim it at the roots for long, aim it along and away from the roots.

Too much washing could be stimulating the oil production in your scalp?

WilfSell · 14/02/2009 00:04

Or don't wash every day but alternate with dry shampoo?

hunnybun1981 · 14/02/2009 00:13

i really didnt think that dry shampoo worked for me, may do for others but made my hair look worse

just read the labels should say lemon on it

Try the greasy hair t gel or the t gel clarifying shampoo. Both are good.

offerdilemma · 14/02/2009 23:48

My hair is really quick to get greasy too.

I can now leave it for 2 days (washing the fringe daily tho), by
using baby shampoo instead of normal shampoo
and, this is really odd, on the nights I stay in and its a bit greasy I put talc on my roots. It really dries it up, and seems to have a long term (?) impact too...
