Any catalogues you can rec, beside Boden and Toast?

I have a love-hate thing going on with Boden, whereby I always fool myself I will look like the model. Obviously I don't and end up sending "sassy" whatever back again.

Toast I can't get in to. Models always look as if they're stuck in an under-heated farmhouse up a Welsh mountain , not my idea of fun.

But I do love a good catalogue to browse. Not online, that is strictly for mning and clothes on dummies leave me cold. Anyone know of any others? Thanks.

How about Wrap www.wraponline.co.uk or Poetry www.poetrycollection.co.uk - they both do catalogues you can look through.

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 12/02/2009 15:29

Juju: have you ever bought anything from Toast? I only ask because, like you, their catalogues leave me wondering wtf are these women doing wearing dry clean only clothes in the middle of a farm yard?? However, their clothes are gorgeous and very well made. Just not necessarily great worn in the "faux peasant wife" way that they often portray in the photos.

I quite like looking through catalogues like La Redoute - it has tons of stuff and even if you don't like their quality, they do have some great ideas for styling.

jujumaman · 12/02/2009 16:20

Ooh, mrsjs

At your suggestion I looked at the toast website where you see the clothes not on ethereal models but standing alone. And you're right, without twigs, straw, pigs and mud they're actually quite nice. Interesting that in Boden's case the catalogue sells (at least to a sucker like me ) as the stuff's never all that when it stands alone, while in Toast's case it sabotages.

Not sure I should have started this thread. Credit crunch, moi?

Thanks for other suggestions - wrap, esp looks good.

Gudrun Sjoden here has some sumptuous catalogues. Some of the clothes are a bit but there are generally some nice pieces in there. I've ordered a few things over the years and delivery is usually quite quick - about a week or so. I like Wrap too - I'm still wearing (or will be in the summer) a red linen short-sleeved shirt I got there at least 5 years ago and it still looks good.

Sorry to hijack.....just seen the wrap site and wondering if they do a mid season sale? (yes, I'm a tight wad!)

fishie · 12/02/2009 17:50

wrap sale

WomanInAnAttic · 12/02/2009 17:51

joules (there is a Mumsnet discount).

I think Wrap are marvellous. Poetry are the same company but for the slightly older ladeee.

alicecrail · 12/02/2009 17:53

I just got the Joules catoulogue today. Love love love it and want everything. Not great about delivery though, so if you can visit a shop, that would probably be a better bet

docket · 12/02/2009 18:03

oooh, that wrap sale is amazing! can anyone advise what the sizing is like? generous or mean?!

WomanInAnAttic · 12/02/2009 18:25

I thought Joules were now doing free delivery and returns?

Horizons · 12/02/2009 18:46

Thanks Fishie....i'm looking at the US site (i'm in Vancouver)and they have the spring/sumer range out so wondering if you know whether they tend to do mid season sales

MrsSeanBean · 13/02/2009 08:10

Some good ones here. Another to add which I received the other day is Joe Browns. I initially discounted it as it looked a bit brash, but having had a flick through ended up being quite impressed.

Also Jigsaw don't do a catalogue as such, akaik, but if you email them they will send you a 'look book'. I always used to request one until Jigsaw went a bit weird, but may be worth inbestigating again.

veryembarrassedmummy · 13/02/2009 08:44

Kew is now available in some John Lewis stores- sorry to hijack.

However, their spring collection fills me with despair- I used to love kew but they are becoming dowdy- in my JL they are pitched up right next to JL own fashion brand- and they both merge seemlessly! help!

Where do Kew and Jigsaw refugees find clothes now??

jujumaman · 13/02/2009 11:22

Thanks v much ladies, am now wasting too much time looking at these websites! Which was the opposite of what I intended with this thread. Happily all the nice things on Toast are only available in size 20 and weird colours now, so that's saved me a fortune. Going to look at Gudrun Sjoden and Wrap. Joules I always find odd, frankly - bright yellow blazers with piping. No, no, no. But maybe this season is an improvement?

womaninattic What i meant was that when we ordered some stuff from there, they only brought half the stuff, and when we chased them up about it they sent the same stuff again, so i ended up with 2 pairs of socks but no jodpurs and it took nearly a month. A friend had the same problem too.

higgle · 14/02/2009 17:02

Howies catalogue is a work of art.
