i'm buying this dress (no matter what you say about it :P) but not sure about sizing. i'm currently a 12 but i'm dieting/exercising at the moment with a stone or so to go, so intend to be a 10 by may when i want to wear the dress. whaddaya reckon? take a chance on the s/m? topshop sizing seems to have got more generous of late, but i'm always wary of s/m m/l type sizing, esp on mina-type dresses, they seem to run small. but with the gathering above the tits this one has serious potential to be tenty/maternity-y if too big. don't suppose anyone here's tried it?

Haven't tried it but IME Topshop sizes definately are on the small side. But that s/m m/l thing is such a pain!

mileniwmffalcon · 11/02/2009 16:05

thanks mamacita, i always expect them to be small and then i'm surprised they're not as small as i expected iyswim.

hopeful bump for the post-pickup crowd

I would get a 12 if you plan to be a 10. It looks a fairly loose style - but that bit of extra room is so much more flattering IMO.

but out of a s/m and m/l which is a 12? i'd call a 12 an m, but maybe topshop have 6-10 (or 8-10) as s/m and 12-16 (or 12-14) as m/l? so which way do i jump? that's my problem!

thats really nice. im a 10 and would get a s/m depending on how tight it is boob wise.

mileniwmffalcon · 11/02/2009 16:46

i have no boobs to speak of, dress has elastane...

Oh sorry mileniw... being dim as usual! Hmmm, you have a problem. Being Topshop I would say medium at least. 'Large' is often 14 in these teen type places.

bestfriendswithbenefits · 11/02/2009 17:27

I would order both, try them on and send one back.

mileniwmffalcon · 11/02/2009 17:33

actually bfwb that's the only answer isn't it - they do free returns too. god i'm so dim sometimes. cheers guys

Nice dress by the way.

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 11/02/2009 19:26

Am loving that dress - and the grey/choc version too . Report back when it arrives......am feeling a possible shopping spree coming on!

mileniwmffalcon · 11/02/2009 19:31

should be able to report back by the end of the week with luck - i sprung the extra quid for next day delivery (i know i don't even want it til may, but i was never known for my patience and then i get my money back quicker )

and the verdict is...

there was bugger all difference between the sizes, if anything the s/m was more unflatteringly puffy around the bust but 4" shorter. oh and the info on the website is wrong there's no stretch, it's a very lightweight woven non-stretch viscose

it's not the most flattering dress in the world tbh, it's cut pretty narrow on the hips so it hangs up there iykwim and it's totally unfitted between boobs and hips so verging on the sackish.

but it's a really cute cut from the boobs up, i like the fabric, it looks good with black and jeans. i've been looking for a nice checked shirt for ages and this will do that job as well as working as a dress with leggings. plus it's really light which is great cos i wanted it for a gig that will involve an awful lot of dancing
