How do I cover my shoulders without wearing a t-shirt or looking like my granny?

Previously I have either worn sleeveless (vest sleeves) or longer sleeves.

Now I want to master short sleeves.

T-shirts are unflattering and scruffy on me.

I end up buying dreadful chiffon floral creations with cap sleeves. Awful.

What sort of thing should I be buying?

In the summer I wear vests with thin cotton shirts, frequently unbuttoned, over them.

I don't think the open shirt look works for me.

I think a shirt might be the answer though, I'm just not sure how.

How about a tie front shrug in fine jersey? (Most of those are long sleeeved though. Maybe also try tying a shirt in a knot at the front.

What kind of figure do you have? Are you large of bust?

AliceTheCamelisnotapig · 11/02/2009 17:53

I live in a v hot country so extra layers not ideal.

I've not knotted a shirt since I was about 13 - has this come around again?

Figure: I'm 5'4, size 12, carrying too much baby weight, big tummy and currently 34F as breastfeeding.

I've really lost my way clotheswise.

How about something like this...? Does have cap sleeves I grant you, but smarter than a t shirt and not chiffon? Also, the empire line drawstring could be quite flattering for a larger bust.

Short sleeve loightweight shrug here

MrsSeanBean · 11/02/2009 18:03

Or this, I find the shorter shrug layered over longer vest look very flattering.

Agree Mrs SB,I bought a couple of short sleeved shrugs in very fine knit from Kew last year and wore them loads.
They may do them this year.

Thank you for the links Mrs SB.

I will investigate shrugs next time I'm in the shops .
