If I like a dress from Lands' End is that the beginning of the end style-wise?

Am I slipping towards an old age filled with 'comfy, practical clothes'? (I'm trying very hard to ignore the fact that I've been in comfy, practical clothes since I turned 30 as none of them came from anywhere quite as bland as Lands' End).

As a separate question for pedants, is that apostrophe really in the correct place? Do they mean the end of several lands?

This is the dress, my boobs are good but my tummy is blubbery so I'm a little worried I might look preggers in it. I also like these shoes, but I don't need MN to tell me that it's a BAD thing to like them, I'm aware they're hideous but I still like them.

I like the dress and shoes arent bad not with dress but?

i think that dress with a nice chunky neclace and some bracelets would be nice

TsarChasm · 10/02/2009 16:44

I was going to tease you, but when I looked at your link, actually I really like the dress a lot.

Mind you I am v old so that's probably not very reassuring

FiveGoMadInDorset · 10/02/2009 16:44

i like those shoes, may have ri get some for the summer.

expatinscotland · 10/02/2009 16:50

bran you bought those hideous croc wedges and your asking about style?

FWIW, i like 'em both!

bran · 10/02/2009 16:54

Will I always be known to you as 'ugly-shoe bran' expat. FWIW I didn't wear the crocs last summer, mostly because they only really went with one swirly skirt which I had lost too much weight to wear by the summer.

I'm reassured that you're not all pointing and laughing at the fashionless freak. I might even buy both the dress and the shoes, though not to wear together obviously. Does Lands' End stuff come up big or small generally?

It's a lovely frock but does look slightly materniry esque..? maybe. Depends what it looks like on . Shoes are cool

bran · 10/02/2009 17:03

What do you think about the dress in a pattern? I'm not sure I could carry it off. I'm not even sure the model in the photo is managing to carry it off.

is super unflattering mid-calf length.

mileniwmffalcon · 10/02/2009 17:07

if you like that style of dress white stuff have loads and are (slightly ) less middle aged.

lilQuidditchKel · 10/02/2009 17:08

I think if you're going to wear that dress, and you have any kind of tum, avoid a pattern. A single colour will keep things more muted. I'd pair the dress with matching tights if possible to help with that, and chunky (long) necklace to help weigh down the volume of it a bit.

Shoes: no no no. Not unless your job involves trekking through jungles in very short shorts and long, tanned, flawless legs. Pale feet in those shoes will look hideous. IMHO

cornsilk · 10/02/2009 17:10

Dress is nice. Shoes are fugly!

bran · 10/02/2009 17:12

It doesn't look mid-calf length on the model, it looks as though it's on the knee. Mind you she's probably quite tall so it might be longer on me.

A bit of split of opinion on the shoes then.

calf-length was reference to first dress

poppy34 · 10/02/2009 17:14

no tis ok.. I think its probably better than starting to think that anything they advertise in the saturday paper bit of the telegraph or towards back of sunday times mag is worse..

but would add had something similar from boden and it was never as nice on as it was in the picture so is hanging sadly in my wardrobe.
