Pearl style necklaces, good bad or jjust ugly?

Having just finished watching Lipstick Jungle I am now officially obsessed with necklaces, chokers or anything that hangs around the décolletage area.

However not being one who has ever adorned this part of her body before I am not sure I have the style savvy to pull these off. Especially those of the pearl variety and I don't mean classic twin set types I mean big chunky style ones. But they look so good on the characters in the TV.

Any tips on accessorising in this dept in general?

Remember the giant pearl (fake) choker Audrey Hepburn wore in Breakfast at Tiffanys? IMO it's only cos she had such an elegant swan-like neck that it looked good.

I do love the longer length, 'pearls by the yard' that Tiffany do. It's pearls interspersed with silver chain.

Pearls are lovely, whether in a short collar style or a long rope. I think they work really well in the opposite of the 'twin set' way, ie. worn with a casual vest top and jacket and jeans.

I've got a long pearl necklace - rather like the one sj-p wears in the satc film. Also have a pearl bracelet from tiffanys. I don't wear them at the same time as think that would be overkill.

Agree with mrss-b though - with jeans and nice shirt/top they look cool.

I often wear a long string of pearls together with a pendant on a long gold chain - kind of piled up together iyswim - when I wear them with skinny jeans and casual tops. I also think longer strings of pearls can look great knotted at the bust.

I don't worry about mixing real with fake (Tiffany real pearl earrings with Miss Selfridge long string necklaces .......am sure DH will one day get the hint and finally purchase necklace to match!).

Shorter strings of pearls can look a little middle aged if you aren't careful. Having said that, I am a huge fan of 50's clothing and love my twinset and pearls look .

I'm no style icon but I think they only look good with a plain black dress. Though maybe with a white open necked shirt

I work in an all male environment and you have to be very think skinned to wear a pearl necklace......Yes they are all 14!

Glad you metioned it sameagain....and I don't work with men..(sahm)..just have dh to contend with..!

Must admit, I saw a nice pearl necklace in next online and thought about it for an upcoming night out..I couldn't do it though. Just the thought of dh's face .!
