Anybody a home waxing expert? Please help!

In yet another failed attempt to save some cash I have decided to forgo expensive salon waxes for the DIY at home option. I ususally use an epilator which is fine, but saw some hot wax stuff to use in the micro wave and tried that.......

For a start it took ages to melt - about 5 times as long as the instructions said and broke a plate in the process, but that is the least of my worries. Two days later I am still covered in sticky wax (and hair!).

does anyone know how toget the wax off? There were no stips to use - you were just meant to peel the wax back - but it just kept cracking so it was impossible to peel off. I have tried soap, scrubbing, mousturiser and am getting a bit desperate as my clothes are sticking to mye legs!

thanks

Baby oil or any kind of oil (olive etc)

HTH

Oh dear, that sounds grim.

I can't answer your question, but oil does sound good. I recently bought some wax strips and the pack included some wipe things to get any stubborn sticky bits off. They were definitely oily (as opposed to soapy).

Could you pop into a local salon just to ask their advice? that said, maybe you should just bump this in the morning as I'm sure I've come across some beauty therapist people on here.

HAve your tried a very warm bath?

Oil sounds like a good idea too.

curlygal · 09/02/2009 18:33

Thanks, I;ve had a warm bath, been swimming and had three showers and scrubbed at my legs with a flannel. tis stubborn stuff...
It came with two tiny wipes but they were no match for the amount of stuff left on my legs.

Will try some olive oil.

I think that there must have been something wrong with the batch of wax!

I'll second baby oil but olive oil would probably work too. How'd you go?

CoteDAzur · 09/02/2009 19:07

What kind of wax did you use?

Most are sugar based so should melt away under a warm shower.

If you have chanced upon one of a more complicated composition, oil should work.

curlygal · 09/02/2009 19:45

Wish it had been sugaring, it was nair "easy" (ha) wax. It has amazing staying power. I must save the rest of the pack for use repairing furniture etc

Never again.

Think will have a bath with DS and his oilatum and see if that helps.

Think that £25 for leg and bikini wax is better value than £7.99 for three days covered in sticky wax that didn;t actually remove my hair in the first place!

Use sugar based wax next time, to be used with strips of paper. It is actually quite easy, by the way.

I used to be a home-waxer, but have never looked back since getting my epilator. Vaseline should get the residue off.

CoteDAzur · 09/02/2009 19:56

Which epilator are you using? Mine causes lots of ingrown hair.
