Hi ggirl, why don't you go in and just have a friendly chat with an assistant, be all pally with them (and listen lots, too - good communication strategy) and then once you've struck up a rapport, tell them about your past foundation disasters with pricey brands, yadda yadda, you have sensitive skin and end up spending a fortune on stuff you can't use in the end. Then see whether you can persuade them (gently! - back off if it's not working) to help you out.

Worked for me the other day . They are very understanding as they all get massive staff discounts - on their salaries they'd never be able to afford the stuff at normal price. Lots of customers are awful, awful, awful to shop assistants, so if you treat them nicely they'll do the same to you.

Good luck!

I don't think they will sample you the LM but they will smear it around your gob for you at the drop of a hat...maybe try that a few times?

False eyelash effect mascara from YSL is still a fav of mine

pagwatch · 08/02/2009 19:00

I was going to suggest that. Go in early morning and getthem to do it for you. The Laura Mercier staff endlesly try stuff on me although I don't buy much.
It must be sympathy rather than good salesmanship

FWIW I have combination skin and found it a bit wishy washy when I had real hopes. But I think I need more coverage.
And be honest and say exactly what you said in the OP - you wantto try but don't want to fork out in case it doesn't suit. They give you a sample. they are always nice in there

brimfull · 08/02/2009 19:24

I know they do samples of their primer, not sure about the foundation tho. Clarins do get samples of foundation, just walk up and say do you have the sample for x,y,z.
