Have an interview next week for a PA role. Haven't got a clue what to wear. Any ideas please ?

I would go with a suit if you have one unless it is in a creative/media type environment in which case you'll have to wait for creative types to come and post.

Dark suit with a camisole type top in a nice colour always looks good, nice accessories.

which industry? where (in country?)

KingCanuteIAm · 06/02/2009 00:05

suit but with a nice top (ie not a shirt type blouse) tights, shoes with heels (not stilleto, sensible but not square IYSWIM)tasteful accessories (light bracelet/necklace and small or stud earrings). Ideally would show a little touch towards fashionable.

at least that is what would be expected in my industry!

shortcircuit · 06/02/2009 00:12

..it's for a smallish fashion company, in their head office.

ahh, best not listen to me then - my line of work calls for classic elegance more than fashion!

BonsoirAnna · 06/02/2009 09:00

Something fashionable and smart. Not always easy to combine the two. I would avoid any kind of suit like the plague.

A dress would be good - with a cardigan and metallic shoes.

chandellina · 06/02/2009 13:07

i don't know - suits are still de rigeur for most job interviews. If you don't wear one, they might not take you seriously.

What about a fashionable suit - something retro for example?

With fun accessories.

BonsoirAnna · 06/02/2009 13:15

I think if the OP does wear a suit they won't take her seriously... A suit? In a fashion company?

KingRolo · 06/02/2009 13:20

I'd have a good look at the fashion company's website (though guess you've done this already!) and take your lead from there.

Rhubarb · 06/02/2009 13:22

A PA is meant to be smart and business like, they are not there to make a fashion statement. I would dress as I would for a PA position for any company.

Very smart trousers or knee-length skirt, blouse and perhaps a waistcoat for a bit of fashion flair. Heeled shoes and tied-back hair.

This is the classic image of a PA.

SniffyHock · 06/02/2009 13:26

this is more like it!

Rhubarb · 06/02/2009 14:03

Nooooooooooo, this is what they will be looking for.

higgle · 06/02/2009 14:07

sneak round in advance and see what they all wear to work - then wear the same sort of thing but a bit smarter.

harpomarx · 06/02/2009 14:09

Rhubarb - where did you find that picture of me????

shortcircuit · 06/02/2009 14:10

haha the last one is my current look
although I have looked like the first one in the past.

Have read the website & I would say it's an upmarket & niche area - slightly sloaney.

I have (old) suits or wrap cardigans/shirt & boots combos.

Agree see what they wear and go one step smarter than that.

I don't think you'll be expected to be a fashion plate just because it's a fashion company.

I went for an interview at a fashion company - it was not in any kind of creative area of the business, I wore a suit and it was absolutely fine. Woman who interviewed me was not remotely trendy.

I'd go with a suit but not with boring white shirt or anything, try a brightly coloured top or something.

chandellina · 06/02/2009 15:26

ok, if not a suit, how about some sort of structured jacket or cardigan ...

if a wrap cardigan, maybe with a collar shirt underneath to look smart?

shortcircuit · 06/02/2009 16:55

thanks - I think I'll go for check trousers, shirt, wrap cardigan + boots.

Fingers crossed !
