What do you think of M and S's new range Portfolio? for 45+

here,
"
The Portfolio range will comprise "essentials" for M&S's core womenswear shopper and will be the first new brand the retailer has launched in four and a half years.

An M&S spokeswoman said Portfolio will be designed to target middle-aged, fashion-conscious females such as Cherie Lunghi, the actress and Strictly Come Dancing contestant. Bostock said it will be positioned between Per Una and Classics."

Erm, sorry I can't see Cherie Lungi in that stuff can you? Dissapointed really, 40 is the new 30 isn't it? So why all those old fashioned skirts? The dresses are ok, so simple styled stuff is fine but on the whole it's just per una and classics under the same name?

morningpaper · 03/02/2009 21:43

all the models still look 23

morningpaper · 03/02/2009 21:44

hmm

It looks rather like a woman of 45+ is expected to fade into the background

themoon66 · 03/02/2009 21:46

Well.. its aimed at me then. But I don't like any of it. Fuddy Duddy. Yeuk.

The dresses are beyond belief - I don't think my own mother would wear them, and she is in her 70s!

hoxtonchick · 03/02/2009 21:47

that skirt on the front page is SHOCKING. but i am well under target market .

fuckerForMyValentine · 03/02/2009 21:48

fucking shoot me now.....

samsonara · 03/02/2009 21:52

, have you noticed how the dresses also don't have a proper defined waist on the models, there seems to be more fabric there, we are clearly supposed to have a spare tyre to hide under their!

OP posts:
samsonara · 03/02/2009 21:52

there I mean, sorry

OP posts:
morningpaper · 03/02/2009 21:53

perhaps by the age of 45 you lose the strength to put on your Spanx?

fuckerForMyValentine · 03/02/2009 21:54

I don't have a spare tyre, thank you very much M+S

mimsum · 03/02/2009 21:56

oh my dear god - I'm 45, is this really how designers see me?? I might as well give up now (sniff)

fuckerForMyValentine · 03/02/2009 21:59

shall we kill each other mimsum ?

noooooooo, I don't want to die alone being eaten by my cats !!!!!!

Swedes · 03/02/2009 22:03

I think I'll stick to their Classics

morningpaper · 03/02/2009 22:04

you couldn't masturbate or tell someone to fuck off in any of those outfits, could you?

cherryblossoms · 03/02/2009 22:10

Wow - I'm two years off their target and ... it's scary.

What's weird is that they've clearly designed some features with middle-age in mind (the spare tyre thing) and yet lots of those dresses are sleeveless, so they haven't followed that through (middle age fear of the upper arm). Though perhaps that's a good thing.

I did like one of the dresses, though. Maybe they look better in RL.

I do really like the Limited Collection, as a rule.

Swedes · 03/02/2009 22:10

Morningpaper - Not simultaneously, no.

lou33 · 03/02/2009 22:12

blimey, i am 42 so not far off and i cant even imagine wearing those when i am 65 let alone 45

clearly all women over 45 get an automatic sense of style by pass for free in the world of m&s

brimfull · 03/02/2009 22:14

FUCK ME that collection is dire beyond belief!!

How depressing, the skirts are all at hideous 'church warden' length.

I am 46 and wouldn't wear any of it..looks exactly like their classics range for 90 yr olds.

cherryblossoms · 03/02/2009 22:14

Actually, I'm thinking that the knitwear is particularly suicidal-feelings-inducing.

Is this really what mid-40 year old women are "supposed" to be wearing?

Swedes · 03/02/2009 22:14

I am their target market. I am 45.

TheCrackFox · 03/02/2009 22:14

You mean to say that in only 9 years time I will be expected to dress like that? Fook me, they were so bad it was offensive.

fuckerForMyValentine · 03/02/2009 22:15

out of interest, where do you stylish ladeez shop for clothes ?

JackieNo · 03/02/2009 22:15

Blimey that is grim. WHat's with the sleeveless dresses? And those skirts are just Per Una with the colour turned down a bit. Some of the jackets not too bad. Marie Helvin's looking good - how old is she now?

Swedes · 03/02/2009 22:16

LOL at Church warden length.

I honestly wouldn't wear any of those clothes, not even to nip to the garden centre, or the bowls club.

brimfull · 03/02/2009 22:17

marie helvin is about 80 isn't she

all that slathering olive oil all over herself has obviously worked..and the fact she has no kids

Swedes · 03/02/2009 22:17

JackieNo. Yes to Per Una with the brights off..... but I didn't see any garments with coordinating necklace.
