Having your colours done if you dye your hair?

I am thinking of having my colours done as I am clueless but is it worth having colours done if you dye your hair? What if I change my hair colour, won't the colours I should wear then be different?

When I had my colours done, I'm sure they put a scarf over my head to hide my hair. I think they base colour analysis on your natural skin tone and hair colour.

I asked about fake tanning in the same way (as I'm an uber pale Celtic skin). I was told that if you think a colour suits you with fake tan but not without then it's probably not true. Colours that are truly yours will work with or without fake tan.

Hopefully someone else will come along and confirm I'm not talking rubbish.

Go for it - I loved the whole experience.

Yes, they cover up your hair with a towel/scarf and tell you what colours suit your natural skin/eye/hair colour. They should also be able to tell you what hair colours will suit you too, ie. no hilights for me.

Well my eyes are green and she went by that, and asked me what colour my hair was when I was a child.

New to this - just found this post. Did you check out House of Colour?
They'll analyse you as you are now and cover your hair if you have it dyed to make sure they get it right.

Agree with what the others say. I had mine done with House of Colour and your hair gets completely covered. My consultant said that they go by skin tone alone. She did tell me that my highlighted hair was fine, but I should always have warm lights not cool. This makes sense as I am a Spring and therefore 'warm'. However, they will have a good idea about your natural hair colour because of your eyebrows... You should have your hair coloured to enhance what nature has given you, not change it completely and I think that is what the consultants are getting at when they talk to you about your hair. I would look awful with red or black hair, with my light, warm, delicate colouring and eyes, it would completely overwhelm me IYSWIM.

In a way it's even more valuable to get your colours done if you dye your hair - you can get proper advice as to what hair colours will suit you.

Hair dye colours are 'warm' or 'cool' in the same way clothing colours are - eg ash blondes and browns are cool-toned, whereas golden/honey/coppers are warm toned. Also depth of colour is a factor in the same way as clothing.

[spends far too much time thinking about hair dye emoticon]

Interesting- I had mine done by Colour me Beautiful about 17 years back and she had problems deciding on my colours due to my hair- which is highlighted. Natural is dark blonde/slightly red, and dyed is honey blonde/bit of lighter ash. No scarf was offered!

I felt a bit ripped off- I got my colour swatches but felt a bit unsure. The only thing that I stuck to was no navy, black and dark colours near my face.

Some of the shades she chose are too bright for me IMO and I think that nowadays the colour groupings seem to have more sub-groups if that is possible.

I bought Colour me Confident and it's good-I seem to come out as a soft and cool- which is calssically "English" - mousy- dark blonde hair/pale skin/light eyes.
