Google Spandeau Ballet, Malcolm McClaren, Vivienne Westwood, Adam and The Ants.

And have a drool at this.

OFFS love your name

baggy trousers with tight belt. Pixie booots, frilly shirts, lopsided floppy hair...

BikeRunSki · 31/01/2009 12:32

Lots of eye make up.

Actually, just lots of make up. Men and women.

Flamboyant pirate and military looks.

Vivienne Westwood is your woman. Saw a restrospective of her work last year, fabulous, and made me feel very nostalgic. I was a bit young, but we lived in south London and used to make our parents t

take us down King's Road to see all the punks, New Roms, Teddy Boys, Mods etc. Loved it. Hand knitted tank tops and Clark's shoes didn't quite cut it. (Although I would have been very cool if Pulp had been around when O was 9!).

Ohforfoxsake · 31/01/2009 13:20

Visage, The Blitz Club, boys in make up. Couldn't get myself a boyfriend in eye-liner, was very uncool

I would say 1980 - so post New Wave, groups like Spandau Ballet, Steve Strange, David Sylvian. DH says Flock of Seagulls too! I'd say later (by mid-80s) it got a lot more pop - people like Nik Kershaw, Howard Jones, Heaven 17.

All I can really remember of it was lots of dramatic make-up for the boys, the pirate look was big (baggy trousers and ruffled blouses), dramatic hair (quiffs, etc) - sort of stuff my dad would say "what's SHE wearing" whenever one of my heroes was on the telly ...

David Sylvian & Japan I think are probably a key look. There was an interesting Observer article a few months ago about him, saying that in the late 1970s/early 1980s, everyone wanted to look like him. Even Lady Di as she was then. Completely true, IMO. I was about 11, obsessed by his fabulous beauty... still a fine-looking man (I feel one million years old..)

Buda · 06/02/2009 10:31

Now listening to Vienna by Ultravox on You tube, I had a big thing about Midge Ure, funny cos he's not really a big thing at all, teeeny weeeny little fella

Buda · 06/02/2009 10:49

oh yes - I liked him too. Esp with those shaped sideburns.

HeadFairy · 06/02/2009 10:56

Blimey I had sophisticated music tastes for an 11/12 year old, that's what happens when you've got a sister 4 years older than you I guess.
