Help. I want a new skirt but nothing in fashion will suit me!

I'm currently a size 20 and my husband has promised me a new wardrobe if I drop a whole dress size in my quest to lose a ton of weight before we try for another baby. I've been struggling because with a 1yo I've not been making any effort and have just felt fat and frumpy (not how I felt before I got pregnant and was the same size).

Anyway, skirts suit me better than trousers so I'm dumping the jeans that emphasise my tummy and looking for another skirt to complement what I've got. Trouble is anything I can find would make me look awful. Pencil skirts on a fat person do NOT go!

I have generally gone for nice long heavy skirts - preferably cord. Something with a nice flare so it doesn't cling to tummy or thighs, and so I can wear shorter tops with it to show the fact that I do still have a waist. I also don't want to spend more than 30-40 quid. I can't find anything online that I like

Help?

Try ebay - I just searched for long cord skirts and there were quite a few nice ones.

I like ankle length denim skirts and buy them on ebay as they are never in fashion

Fenn Wright Manson had some luverly looking full length cord skirts in various colours when I was in John Lewis recently. I didn't try them on as they were rather too expensive for me, but they might be worth a look. My concern was that they might be a little tight at the top for my big stomach/bum/thighs though. Am crap at links, so will just cut and paste.

You need an a-line style, unbelievably flattering on hips and bum. And tum too for that matter. Knee length is good. Cord is great, I love it! I will have a look and try and find some links.

Some ideas here

Long skirt (sale)

Knee length a-line, not cord though (sale

Current season Boden, have had my eye on for ages, not sure if ot comes in cord though

possibility - cord mid length

Monsoon, not cord, but denim

MrsSeanBean · 31/01/2009 14:27

a-line cord skirt Monsoon ebay bargain

JackieNo · 31/01/2009 14:30

Dark brown
Possibly (not sure on their sizing - I'm a 20, and tried some of their trousers on in a charity shop in a 20, and they were too small, so the 22 might be OK)

JackieNo · 31/01/2009 14:32

This looks rather nice (good and tailored at the top, then flaring out lower down - flattering).
ALso comes in black.

JackieNo · 31/01/2009 14:37

Cord,
Possibly a bit shorter than you want
More cord

JackieNo · 31/01/2009 14:40

Bit short again, possibly? But a nice range of colours.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

There are a few there that are lovely, and from places I wouldn't necessarily look.

I did end up buying a knee length monsoon skirt from ebay for a bargain £12.50 including postage, so I reckon I'll keep looking on there, but I really like several of them so might treat myself to one.

I have trouble with a lot of aline skirts being too fitted across the stomach, meaning I can't wear short tops with them, but some of these look quite full!

Thanks again!
