I had a huge clear out at the weekend and got rid of most of my clothes , i now need to replace them with some up to date clothes. Im starting to feel like i look frumpy and old, im 27 next month, what should/souldn't i be wearing?

I want to look young but not like a teenager .

what size and shape?

onlywantsone · 27/01/2009 22:47

Yes, we need details and I shall strive to assist. I'm 21 (not that that is in itself going to help you) but I think I dress ok... any way...

details

Clothes size -
Body shape -
Bra Size -
What's your most favourite piece of clothing you posses -
Are you a SAHM or work? -
What "ideal" look are you aiming for -

Marne · 28/01/2009 09:27

I'm a size 12, big hips, small breasts 34C and 5.6ft.

I'm a SAHM.

I would like to look trendy, not chav and not too mummsy IYKWIM.

I spend most of the week in jeans and a simple top, i like my wool dress with tights and boots, i rarely wear high heal shoes as i can't walk in them .

I would like people to comment on how nice i look (like they used to years ago).

Denim skirt perhaps, as a change from jeans? the dreaded Boden have one here

paddingtonbore · 28/01/2009 09:33

flat boots or flat shoes?

suwoo · 28/01/2009 09:34

Sorry Boden denim skirt is not trendy. Get theeself to topshop, they have a style advisor in certain stores and they are fabulous. I have had a few topshop parties where they come to your house with a load of clothes for you to try on.
Step away from Boden........

suwoo · 28/01/2009 09:37

All Saints is my definition of trendy, not those Clarks shoes or anything from Boden.

Juditbeauty · 28/01/2009 10:31

Hello Marne, Shape is very important. You must dress according to your shape and colouring but that is another story. You must be a pear shape. Here are some tips: Never wear pencil skirt, skinny jeans, ankle straps, stilettos.when you wear trousers need to wide enough in the leg to flote.Avoid side pockets. For tops wear horisontal stripes they make you look curvy on top. Also wear patterns and busy tops as they draw attancion away from your hips and balance your overall look.

I'ma n hour glass and I wear lots of dresses with tight/leggings and boots. You need a wide belt if you are an hour glass. I am a 10, and have 30F boobs, so I would say Marne does sound a bit more pear shaped.

Agree that 34C is not small chested and that you sound quite hourglass. What does your waist measure?
Where do you shop usually and what colours do you like?
I think accessories are often a good way to look more modern/funky.
You can get some lovley stuff from the high st, Accessorize and Oasis have great things IMO.

paddingtonbore · 28/01/2009 11:36

Blimey - that's me told then

suwoo · 28/01/2009 12:11

Hope I haven't ofended you paddingtonbore . I am not any kind of Trrinny or Susannah, I just feel that Boden falls very short of 'trendy'. All saints and Topshop are trendy although they might not be everyones cup of tea. A lot of the things there are too young for me at 33 but my 36 year old friend looks amazing in them. A lot of course does depend on your figure. I wear my Ugg boots a lot and know that a lot of people hate them, but they really suitmy hourglass figure. I wear black skinny jeans with long line t shirts, same sort of tops with leggings, knitted knee length dresses in one colour with coloured tights and my uggs.
I am currently pregnant and living in this dress with leggings and uggs.
I live in Manchester though and go into town a lot, so I like to be more trendy/edgy. If you live in a posher more suburban place then maybe Boden is 'the thing'.

paddingtonbore · 28/01/2009 12:17

oh, of course no offence taken .

we are obviously going out to very different places in Manchester (mostly northern quarter here, where a denim skirt and vintage top fits in) .

suwoo · 28/01/2009 12:24

Are you south Manchester Paddington? I am North Manchester and I think my clothes are a kind of uniform round here. I think anything goes in the Northern Quarter, no? I would dress even edgier if I was out in the Northern Quarter I think. You know what, its just our own individual perception isn't it. Did you watch that Trinny and Susannah thing last night as an example?

Marne · 28/01/2009 12:39

I think i am more of an hourglass, my bottom has shrunk in the past few months )i have lost some weight), i think i look flat chested because i have a broad back and sholders.

I live in Dorset, in the middle of nowhere so most people here are dressed in welly boots and wax jackets .

The best part of my body is my legs (the only part i don't mind looking at) as long as they are covered (with tights/trousers) which is why i like wearing my wool dress and tights. I have a few pairs of boots, my fav are my flat suede clarks boots. I like pumps but my feet don't. I find it hard to find summer shoes/sandles to fit and i end up living in flip flops or Crocs.

I like skinny jeans but i find it hard to find some to fit, my hips seem to fit a 12 but my waist fits a 10.

I find it hard to go clothes shopping and i end up buying either something black or something too bright like i would have worn 10 years ago.

Thankyou for all the tips, i think i need to accessorise, im not to good at finding nice jewelry or belts and i rarely wear earrings.
