erm, not many, unfortunately. I found Coast assistants within debenhams to be very friendly and helpful. Can't think of any other tbh, usually I am exasperated at how rude shop assistants are these days

janeite · 27/01/2009 13:21

Waitrose staff are generally lovely.
M&S either wonderful or beyond weird.

KarlWrenbury · 27/01/2009 13:21

Do you think that "women of a certain age" (i.e not 25 and lithe!) need a more sensitive approach in the fitting room?

I do. There is a Kew shop here that depite being staffed by women in their mid 20s is really kind, helpful and honest!

Sorry - hadn't realised it was in Style! I get all my clothes from Waitrose you know!

Tinker · 27/01/2009 13:22

John Lewis

janeite · 27/01/2009 13:22

Dd1 was served by a gorgeous woman in the Topshop concession of Selfridges last week.

Tinker · 27/01/2009 13:23

Monsoon staff are usually good

catMandu · 27/01/2009 13:24

Our local kew also has friendly helpful staff, as does Monsoon. The rest are pants.

Flier · 27/01/2009 13:24

Monsoon I have found to be generally friendly and lovely.

traceybath · 27/01/2009 13:27

I've found that to get really good service you need to build a relationship with the staff in a particular shop.

Jigsaw are pretty helpful - they very kindly tracked down a lovely jacket for me that was in the sale.

I think if you're chatty and friendly they do tend to help you more.

higgle · 27/01/2009 15:17

Shoon - always lovely. Rang round for me to find a pair of shoes not in stock and volunteered ( without me asking) to look after the boots I'd bought behind the counter until I'd finished my shopping. The shoes arrived from Tunbridge Wells the very next morning in a lovely brown paper parcel. Made my day.

abraid · 27/01/2009 15:30

Usually JOhn Lewis are excellent (except for fashion assistants in Oxford Street, some of whom will just ignore you even if you're obviously looking for sizes and are interested in trying on and possibly buying--SPENDING MONEY).

Waitrose good too. Didn't make me pay for a lasagne I dropped on the floor and even thanked me for letting them know.

bluebump · 27/01/2009 15:33

Molton Brown were excellent but that may have been because I told them I had a few hundred pounds of vouchers to spend! They were however very informative about everything I touched and were polite etc.

onlywantsone · 27/01/2009 15:47

Debenhams personal shopper ladies are all lovely (the ones I've met) :-)

ThingOne · 27/01/2009 15:56

Agree about Shoon. Very good. White Stuff also very helpful with sizes and advising against things that don't fit/suit.

I buy my shampoo from Waitrose so I could say they fit in health and beauty. They are fantastic. I forgot my cards one day and they let me pay by phone when I got home and delivered my shopping later in the day for me.

PenelopePitstops · 27/01/2009 15:58

debenhams till people are awful, so rude and never acknowledge you being there

waterstones people are nice generally

and fat face has some fab assistants

marks on the till are ok, its the fitting room women that scare me

Tillyscoutsmum · 27/01/2009 16:01

The Monsoon staff in our local one are really useless. They spend the whole time chatting to each other and act as though you have inconvenienced them if you dare to need serving.

There are some good ones in Debenhams and M&S. Boots drive me mad with their advantage card pushing and won't take no for an answer !

littlerach · 27/01/2009 16:13

Salisbury Monsoon staff have always been brilliant and v helpful.

And Virgin Vie at Cribbs were amazing when I was pg and couldn't decide what to get my sister for her birthday.

ladycornyofsilke · 27/01/2009 16:19

John Lewis
Sainsburys
Space NK
French Connection
M and S I am not going into again after being lectured by the cashier about reusing carrier bags. (Well I probably will go there again.)

janeite · 27/01/2009 16:54

Yes our Monsoon ones aren't great - and Debenhams are often very rude indeed: not outwardly just in the way they don't make eye contact, or any attempt to engage with customers.

BHS are dreadful. I complained once because the two numpties behind the counter talked all the way through the two minutes silence for Armistace.

Principles staff are usually very nice - it's a pity the clothes seem to have gone badly downhill again.

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 27/01/2009 17:39

Monsoon and Debenhams are awful in our local stores (except the lovely ladies on the MAC and YSL counters ). John Lewis is a bit hit and miss.

Fat Face, Top Shop, Zara (all local), Selfridges on Oxford Street and Paul Smith in Floral Street all have fab assistants ime.

Wheelybug · 27/01/2009 17:43

Agree with John Lewis and I had a very helpful M&S cashier today who helped me loads (I think because I am 33 weeks pregnant but look about 53 weeks ).

MaryAnnSingleton · 27/01/2009 17:46

L'Occitane and Lush
Waitrose generally

MrsMattie · 27/01/2009 17:48

The staff in my local Waitrose and Sainsbury's are lovely.

I also find John Lewis staff very helpful.

llareggub · 27/01/2009 17:50

I've no idea. I do it all online these days, but I can tell you that Amazon deliver almost as soon as I confirm the order!
