At what age did you start putting hairbands and clips and stuff in DD's hair?

I turned up at nursery yesterday to find nursery staff had put DD's (15mo)hair in little bunches. I hardly recognised her! She did look very cute but it hadn't even occurred to me to start putting things in her hair. I thought she wouldn't like it but she didn't seem to mind at all. I tried to put the bunches back in this morning and she wouldn't let me do it at all.

Do you put things in your DD's hair and what age do you start? Or does it just depend on how much hair they've got?

Oh I wish I could do this with DDs hair! I have tried, since probably about your DD's age but my DD just will not have it.

RamblingRosa · 27/01/2009 09:31

No, she wouldn't have it when I tried but apparently she was fine with nursery staff doing it. They said that it's often the way and mums bring in their DDs with hair bands and clips asking the nursery staff to please put their hair up .
Nusery nurse said she just distracted DD with a book while she did it.

Oh I might try that with DD! Shame she is only in once a week at the moment!

How annoying eh? How is she like with you brushing her hair? If you find a way, let me know as DD will not at all, and if I am lucky enough to get it in her hair, she pulls them out straight away.

MrsMattie · 27/01/2009 09:34

Only when they've got enough hair to put in a bunch.

pagwatch · 27/01/2009 09:36

DD liked alice band type things from about two

DumbledoresGirl · 27/01/2009 09:38

Believe this or not, I had to start putting clips into dd's hair when she was about 4 months old. She was born with a full head of hair and I could have made a little ponytail out of it from the day she was born, but didn't. However, when she was still a tiny baby, her hair was forever flopping into her eyes so she had to have clips at a far younger age than I felt was safe. Fortunately, she was not the sort of baby to put things in her mouth much.

RamblingRosa · 27/01/2009 09:39

DD LOVES me brushing her hair! Actually, to be more accurate, she likes trying to brush her hair and my hair herself. She's quite keen on the comb too!
She just likes copying me. If she sees me brushing my hair she'll grab the brush off me and start trying to brush my hair. I'll tell her to brush her hair and she'll have a go

4 weeks old, lol.

DD has a good head of hair and i got baby clips from the USA. She looks adorable

hewlettsdaughter · 27/01/2009 09:42

4 years

MrsBoo · 27/01/2009 09:44

They did this at my DD's nursery, but not until she was about 2. She didn't have enought hair before then.
I used to lose a couple of hair clips every week. Luckily they are really cheap at Sainsbury's
DD when she was a bit older used to come with lovely french plaits etc

CatIsSleepy · 27/01/2009 09:48

dd is 2.9 and very averse to me trying to do anything with her hair. She very occasionally has a pony-tail but is not keen. Have just started to use an alice-band, but only to try and keep her hair out of her dinner!

ProfRichardDawkins · 27/01/2009 09:51

I started putting a clip in DD's hair when she was about a year old. To prevent her hair from falling across her eyes. Looking back through old photos I realise she looked totally ridiculous......but it was for practical reasons rather than reasons of style.

psychomum5 · 27/01/2009 09:55

from 4wks pretty much!

they had no hair, and the amount of comments on "oh, what a pretty boy....he would make a beautiful girl" (with me replying thru gritted teeth that she IS a girl, while ).............hence the hair bands that seem to make a lot of MNers froth at the teeth

but.........

I have never had issue with mine having their hair done, and yet friends I know who disagreed with my love of hairbands, have had hell getting their DD's to wear pretty clips etc.

My DD's however do look at some of their baby pics and claim hatred of me!!!!

RamblingRosa · 27/01/2009 11:16

I suppose that's what I mean psychomum...is there something wrong with putting hairclips and bands on a 15mo? I can't put my finger on what it is but something about it doesn't sit well with me. On the other hand she did look very cute and she didn't seem to mind.

When she was old enough and had long enough hair to want it herself.
Bald girls with things round their heads look like Easter eggs.

PlumBumMum · 27/01/2009 11:27

After 2 when they had enough hair

Although I would have been abit if someonelse had done my dds hair before me, is it just me

RamblingRosa · 27/01/2009 11:27

She's got long enough hair but I don't know if she wants it or not. She definitely didn't look like an easter egg

OP posts:
RamblingRosa · 27/01/2009 11:28

Yes Plum. I was a bit but I tried not to show it. The staff looked a bit nervous like they thought I might be angry but I wasn't. So do you think that before 2 is too young?

OP posts:
PlumBumMum · 27/01/2009 11:34

No I think if her hair is long enough, I would put it up, but I never really thought about it much until my dd started nuresery and then she had it tied up all the time simply because I didn't want her catching any thing

Although now with dd2 who is 2 I would love to get her hair up because it is cute but she won't keep them in
But thats because she loves her pink stephanie wig!

PlumBumMum · 27/01/2009 11:35

*nursery

Although they will often let someone else do it before they let mums

seeker · 27/01/2009 11:35
