Okay, so now that my hair is returning back its normal thin lankness post-baby, I need a new hairstyle. Am thinking of getting it cut shorter to minimise the rubbishness but am a bit stuck for inspiration. Would any of you kind stylish MNers be willing to look at my pic on profile and suggest what might suit?

Cheers

How brave are you?

You have beautiful eyes, and, from what I can make out from your picture, a heart-shaped face: wide-ish across the cheekbones, and a sweet, sharp-ish chin.

If you have the guts, would you go for a pixie-cut - ie. really really short? It could really suit you.

BillyElliot · 23/01/2009 10:09

i agree with penthesileia. you have a lovely face. if you do go short make sure you get a good cut.

Dropdeadfred · 23/01/2009 10:11

a meg ryan-esque choppy cut that you can style in a couple of ways, would suit you like this!

Penthesileia · 23/01/2009 10:11

Yes, good point. Go to a good salon and get it cut well, if you go for the chop!

rotterpotter · 23/01/2009 10:13

Hi Cyteen, I don't think your hair looks lank, it seems to have agood bit of wave in it. Think you need to post another pic with hair all tied back so the experts can have a proper look! Will watch this with interest, if they do a good job for you I may put myself up for a makeover too...

MaryAnnSingleton · 23/01/2009 10:13

get it off your face I think ! a shortish choppy bob, side swept fringe ! you'll look fab

rolandbrowning · 23/01/2009 10:14

I agree, you could definitely have a really short cut, it would draw attention to your eyes and be so easy to do! I am jealous, too fat to have short hair at the moment

mrsseanbean · 23/01/2009 10:15

You have a lovely wave, go for a just above shoulder layered bob, shaped around the face. Layered/ lighter fringe, but I would keep the fringe as it emphasis the eyes.

How abouyt some low lights ina chesnut/reddish shade (this sets off blue eyes). Don't go too short all at once, leaves some versatility. Also (IME) wavy hair can get too wavy/ curly uncontrollable if you go too short. HTH

Hello - Sandra Bullocks (did I spell that right?) stlye in the Lake House could be good on you
Here she is

Also easy to look after.

motherlovebone · 23/01/2009 10:44

the sandra bullock is good suggestion, you could straighten/dry it straight when you have time (60s style) a long sweeping side fringe would be great on you, and you still have a lil something to hide behind. when you go short, you also need a new wardrobe...worth bearing in mind. a good stylist will know what suits

kando · 23/01/2009 10:48

Oooh, I'm liking the Sandra Bullock look. That would look really good (might even look alright on me as I too am in dire need of makeover but not brave enough to put pic on web!) Do you yourself (iyswim) have any ideas of how you want it to look?

PetitFilou1 · 23/01/2009 13:24

cyteen I don't like the Sandra Bullock look personally that others suggested but think that your hair atm is hiding your face

You do have lovely blue eyes and good cheek bones. I think go for a choppy bob and see how comfortable you are with that - then consider very short. However, very short emphasises all your flaws - I've done it and never again as it put ten years on me (also see Sienna Miller who has since grown her hair again)

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 23/01/2009 16:18

If you have fine hair, beware of going very short. You need longer, heavier layers and a heavy fringe to combat the fineness of your hair (am fellow fine hair person ).

I have always adored Meg Ryan's style but she has very thick hair and therefore alas my hair would not work with those styles

cyteen · 23/01/2009 18:39

wow, thanks for all the responses and the nice compliments - i am a bit

i have had v short hair in the past, back in my raving days, and it did look good. but my hair is definitely finer atm than it was then, thanks to my hormones, so perhaps not such a good idea as TRMJS says.

for some reason i can't get angelina jolie's Hackers cut out of my mind, but that would look pants with fine hair wouldn't it?

I think you could get away with that with fine hair but growing it out would be a total mare.....I know cos I have done it

TryingToLookGroomed · 23/01/2009 21:26

Ooh I'm scared of v short hair... I found when I went for a short chop that I ended up wearing full makeup everyday to feel more feminine.
I think a blunt cut bob just above the shoulder would suit you and make your hair look thicker (from a fellow fine haired lady!)
If you go to a decent hairdresser they will give you lots of suggestions and perhaps cut it gradually to a length you feel comfortable with.
Credit Crunch season means that a lot of salons have special offers on at the mo so you can go for a senior stylist.
