Quality basics - vests, t-shirts etc - where can I find this stuff?

I'm fed up with thin stuff from Gap/M&S

Petit Bateau. Excellent quality.

EldonAve · 19/01/2009 16:50

I bought 2 T-shirts from Tesco yesterday - new s/s stock, fairtrade cotton and on offer for 2 for eight pounds. They are quite thick and a flattering shape (for me it least with lack of norkage) - fitted shape, very long in the body, 3/4 sleeves and a slash/boat neck. They come in navy, white, blue, turquoise and pink, maybe some other colours but not black (maybe more colours + black will arrive though) I'm very happy with them. I normally buy this sort of top from Petit Bateau but I was attracted to the shape and length of these - and they are a bit sturdier than the PB tops too plus much cheaper of course.

White Company? I haven't bought anything from there myself as the colours are too washed out and inspid for me but I always have a "feel" in Selfridges and the quality seems good.

Thanks

Top shop. Have not been in there for a while but the basic vests, t-shirts etc... are usually reasonable quality and not thin like the ones out of gap.

H and M doa long sleeevd round neck top for £7.99.
its SO SO SO warm

BonsoirAnna · 20/01/2009 18:16

I second Castille. Petit Bateau does excellent stuff. You don't need to be thin to wear it.

Yeni · 20/01/2009 18:21

How does the Petit Bateau stuff wash? I always find that 100% cotton stuff goes out of shape quite quickly and I prefer something with a bit of lycra.

BonsoirAnna · 20/01/2009 18:24

Petit Bateau washes/tumbles brilliantly.

EldonAve · 20/01/2009 18:42

I think perhaps my bust is the problem with PB stuff

I'm tempted but I don't think I'll be able to squeeze myself into a PB t-shirt. I'm about a 14-16.

RumMum · 20/01/2009 19:00

supprised no ones mentioned Primark... theres are very cheap at the moment, althought they won't last forever... but what do you expect for £2.50

EldonAve · 20/01/2009 19:12

yes primark always cheap but our local is a total jumble sale

elliegray does nice tops and are good quality. I know it says sportswear but they are just normal tops.

EldonAve · 21/01/2009 09:38

thanks, they look good, any idea what the length is like?

The best vests/camisoles I have ever found are by Hanro - I am not sure where you can get them, I get them from Selfridges. Beautiful soft luxurious fabric, I only own about 4 as they are not cheap, but they fit beautifully.

EldonAve · 22/01/2009 12:19

thanks
