following on from key clothing thread - recommendations for lovely denim skirt?

I have one that I love - Top shop via Ebay. But I have lost some weight (5'8 size 10 ish)and it hangs down on my hips, just doesnt look so good any more. I'm wrong side of 40 so it needs to be not too short, preferably just above knee, and must have pockets and be quite plain and comfy. All suggestions gratefully received.

Try Zara - their "Woman" range has some lovely denim pieces. I bought a fab straight, just above the knee indigo denim skirt from there 2 years ago that is still looking fab.

FriendNeedsHelp · 18/01/2009 15:55

I've got this from Next - ignore the 'petite' bit, they have it in regular length too.

Be aware that Next sizes are quite generous though - might be worth trying it in different sizes.

OK here's me 2p worth on demin skirts:

I haven't bought any recently as the 2 that I have are doing so well! One is about 4 years old, from Mark One, knee length, gored with a frayed hem. The other is 1 year old, Peacocks, just above knee with inverted pleats front and back and patch pockets. Both look at bit fat face -y but at a fraction of the price! The good thing about denim is that it lasts for ages and still looks good when it gets shabby.

But I would say - avoid long denim skirts, they look really frumpy.

hidetheribbons · 18/01/2009 20:26

Oh and they are cheap too, usually under £20.

soyabean · 18/01/2009 20:32

thanks I will have a look at the places you have all suggested. Inverted pleats wd be good as I work in a school and need to be able to move around freely!

I like that one the Next one. I have two from Kew - one very short and one above knee length that i can wear to work.
The very short one is about 21 inches.

SeymourButz · 18/01/2009 20:35

My sister has a fab one from the dreaded WHite stuff - ? prosperity skirt - looks fab on her and shit on the site

dexter73 · 18/01/2009 23:42

Is this the one you mean SeymourButz? Looks very nice!

Hogiabach · 19/01/2009 07:23

I have a lovely one from Earl Jeans

Lizzylou · 19/01/2009 07:30

I have that Next one as well, looks good on.
Trendy young Mom on school run commented on how nice it was, so I was pleased!

mrsseanbean · 19/01/2009 13:28

I am almost embarassed to mention Boden again, but they do good denim skirts IMO.

This is one of the few things I like from the new spring range. I particularly like it because it avoid the usual cliched style (mini, with back spilt).

SeymourButz · 19/01/2009 13:28

God i love that next one but high waisted is not good here.

higgle · 19/01/2009 13:37

The Boden casual flippy skirt in dark denim looks very useful - here Yippee, first time I've ever done a link!

HaventSleptForAYear · 19/01/2009 15:11

I just bought a knee-length one from Morgan but I can't find it on their site to link to.

Probably because it was in the sale.

They had 2 versions - a "mini" one and a "knee-length" one.

Tried on both.

The mini one looked great from the waist down - and then you looked up at my haggard 34 yr old face and it looked all wrong.

Knee-length not as exciting but less potential for embarrassment.

moonshine · 19/01/2009 18:11

plenty to choose from here

soyabean · 20/01/2009 21:29

thanks everyone. I like the shape of the White stuff one Seymour, but not keen on the creases...Theres a nice Oasis one on the Shopstyle site moonshine, so thanks for that. Friendneedshelp does the Next one have a pleat or split at the back? I like the look of it but might be a bit too straight for me. A bit A line is probablywhat I need. I know I need to go out and try on really...

I have a really good one from Jigsaw - nice dark material, A-line, simple

but

£59.99 (gulp)

It is probably worth it if I calculate it as price per wear (I have been living it it TBH)
