I used some lovely new bath oil in my bath last night but I think I put too much in.

For some reason I then decided to wash my hair in the bath (why oh why???)

Now it is just full of oil! I have washed it 3 times with loads of shampoo but it still looks like I've marinated in olive oil.

What can I do? I look like such a scratter...

hat

AlistairSim · 17/01/2009 17:33

Oops!

You could try putting shampoo on dry hair.
That might help.

psychomum5 · 17/01/2009 17:33

does vinegar not cut thru grease and oil???

if so, can you does yourself in vinegar and then wash lots to rid yourself of the chip shop smell??

dry shampoo? brush it out
[altho i suppose it might just stick to it...]

tumtumtetum · 17/01/2009 17:35

The was for twoluvlykids!

You style and beauty people are pretty swift - i don't come here much (given my post the reasons are fairly obvious!).

I was thinking of washing up liquid - same logic as psychomum - but is that a supremely bad idea?

Shampoo on dry hair sounds good but maybe not, um, industrial enough!

well....you could also try lots of talc, as that is what I rub into grease marks on clothing (and it works too by absorbing said grease), but if there really is that much of it then I would NOT try talc unless you wish to look like you also have wall paper paste in your hair!

tumtumtetum · 17/01/2009 17:50

You know what this is going to end up just like that episode of friends where ross ends up putting all that stuff on his legs cos he can't get his leather trousers back up!

So far I am taking to bathroom:

Talc
Washing up liquid
Vinegar
Shampoo
Conditioner

It will probably all react or something...

You must come back and let us know

tumtumtetum · 17/01/2009 17:55

I will go for it tonight and report back.

If it goes horribly wrong I wonder if I can get compassionate leave from work

Don't use washing up liquid-far too harsh. Put some shampoo in hand add a little water to make a paste and rub into the oil adding water a little at a time. Head and shoulders would be a good shampoo to use. Wash twice, condition and then use cold water to do the final rinse. Should get it all out.

psychomum5 · 17/01/2009 18:00

please don;t use all at once........you hair might fall out or something!!

BitOfFun · 17/01/2009 18:00

This can't end well, surely.

I am going to have a bath a bit later, with E45 emollient in. I was wondering if it would be ok to dunk my (admittedly dry shredded wheat-type) hair in it, but you have saved me!

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 17/01/2009 18:25

BOF - I think it depends on the type of oil a product contains. If its a mineral oil it will generally create a slick on the hair such as poor tumtumtetum has suffered. However, a vegetable/plant based oil should be fine. I make aromatherapy blends for clients using veg and plant oils to use on problem scalps/scalp psoriasis etc which they slick on, leave for an hour (or even overnight) and rinse off using regular shampoo the next day.

psychomum5 · 17/01/2009 20:34

has it worked yet???

or are you sobbing and rocking in a corner.....

TryingToLookGroomed · 17/01/2009 20:42

This reminds me of my mum's tales of being so poor when growing up that they didn't use anything but washing up liquid on their hair. Hers has always looked nice and shiny so can't be that bad

nontoxic · 17/01/2009 20:47

Use white vinegar to avoid the chippie smell - but I'd second shampoo on dry hair. I sometimes condition using olive oil overnight, and this always works.

BitOfFun · 17/01/2009 22:23

Hmm MrsSimm, I may have to get in touch with you...psoriasis killing me at the mo!

cornsilk · 17/01/2009 22:29

Tum te tum it will be fine after a normal wash. Trust me-I'm a product junkie.

tumtumtetum · 18/01/2009 11:20

Cornsilk it was like an oil slick after washing 3 times yesterday! Gah!!!

Right. Couldn't be arsed last night so slept with head on towel to save the pillow.

This morning have washed with

hand wash! On the basis that it would be more detergenty than shampoo but not as harsh as washing up liquid. I put the handwash on dry hair mixing in with a little water as per various posters.

Then shampoo and conditioner. It did feel a bit less, erm, slick(!) than yesterday so fingers crossed...

It's still wet at the mo though (I always let it dry naturally) but will rush back with results as soon as I have them in...

tumtumtetum · 18/01/2009 13:04

Well it is nearly dry and I will be happy to leave the house without my hood up (unlike yesterday!).

It is still a little oily shiny underneath but not nearly as bad as before i reckon I can get away with it.

It also looks super-conditioned and feels as soft as a little kitten!!!

Thank you for all your invaluable support ladies - you were fabulous in a crisis
