vitamin a. and antibiotics
you can get topical anti bs though

BodyBagBastard · 14/01/2009 18:24

your gp will help you.
also if you are on oral contracetives you can change pill to dianette

chewitt · 14/01/2009 18:25

the doc can give you oxytetracyclins?? (anti biotics) that should clear it up and you can stay on them indefintately. Less than ideal but solves the problem

thumbwitch · 14/01/2009 18:26

antibiotics, either topical or oral, will help. Failing that, they can prescribe topical steroid creams.

Tretinoin If you are prescribed this, you must use it sparingly and build up a tolerance over a couple of weeks but it does work very well.

My best friend has this problem. Her GP put her on the pill which helped enormously.

whoingodsnameami · 18/01/2009 12:34

I have been sterilised so not sure gp would put me on the pill, besides before I was sterilised I was useless at remembering to take the pill, its exactly the reason why I now have 5 year old twins

Also - try acupuncture - it can have really good results without the full on medical assault that some of the stuff the GP will put you on. It is the only thing for me that really eradicated the problem fully.

get a dermo referral - they can give you diff drugs
brain not working so can't recall what they are but you need a derm to get them and they reduce sweat production poss for good

Roaccutane is the stuff - you have to have liver tests etc

try seeing an aromatherapist. There are loads of excellent anti-bacterial/balancing/skin healing (ie mandarin for scarring) oils which you can use on the face.

A common misconception is that when you have acne you shouldn't use face oil but actually its a case of finding the right viscosity for your skin type. A light base oil such as apricot kernel would be fine. I also occasionally use essential oils diluted in aloe vera gel if I get a particularly nasty spot. As it is anti-inflammatory it really soothes the skin and again helps to reduce scarring.

There are also enrichers which you can add to help with scarring. Plus, your therapist can try different blends with you until you find the right one for your skin.
