Clothes swapping parties - anyone been to one? What was it like?

Just wondering.
How do you find out about them?
Who organises them?
If you can' find anything you like, can you just leave stuff?
Does any money change hands?
What happens to the leftover stuff at the end?
What if there's no one of your size to swap with or you don't like their clothes.

I did one once - just invited friends and their friends. Asked everyone to bring 4 or 5 items that you no longer wear/ don't want any more. We all had a glass of wine and a rummage. I think everyone went away with something despite varying sizes. I took the clothes nobody wanted to the charity shop. It was really good fun and very easy to do.

Thanks Mitford sisters. Sounds like fun! Anyone else?

Friend did one -- she said to bring one item of clothing. I brought a lovely dress DD never wore...

No one mentioned it was woman's clothes

It's very cool to have clothes swapping parties and there are even organised events in London where you just take something along and pick up other stuff. Here's a timeout article link

I've been to one - it was really, really fun.

We all tried on lots of each other' clothes and it was sort of like being a little girl again, playing dress-up.

I arranged one for friends - mainly cos I'd had a big wardrobe clearout! We called it a Swap and Slurp party (slurp being the consumption fo wine bit!) We all had a great time - evereyone got something from someone else - even tho we are all quite different in size (one of my size 12 maternity tops looked fab on a size 16 friend). Someone had been given an all in one, maternity, stretchy catsuit which most of us tried on at some point!

We then took the rest to a charity shop. There were a few things such as brand new dresses that people asked payment for -but nothing excessive! Think the key is for people not to get too serious about it - ie heard of one party where one guest grabbed almost everything and it caused lots of bad feeling!

Maybe have a look on the BBC website - cos Twiggy did a few programes recently about clothes swapping so they may have links to some websites?

We are about to have a handbag swap party - do you know how many handbags/bags that people have that they dont use? I was shocked when I dug mine out - and I'm not even an avid buyer of bags!
