Do you colour your hair at home?

And of so what make do you use of dye do you use?

I want to get a semi-permanent dye, because I had my hair cut at the weekend and all the blonde end bits from the summer have gone so my hair looks really dark now. I haven't used any home-dyes for years so I need some advice please on what's good in terms of how it looks and how long it lasts.

FWIW I'm a mousey blonde/brown but much more brown at the moment...

A semi permanent won't lighten your hair at all.

It's worth calling local hairdressers and asking if they have model nights where you get a free or very cheap colour, highlights underneath your hair sound like they would be a good option, and would be less issues with regrowth etc.

I use Nice and Easy (Clairol) largely because it has a little comb applicator thing that I find a lot easier than the pointy nozzle (I have long thick wavy hair). I think they're all much of a muchness really - I've never noticed one brand fading more than another. My roots need sorting before the colour has faded in any case.

There are a couple of herbally-type ones now (Sainsburys stock it but I can't remember the name) which are meant to have fewer nasty chemicals, and they're quite good as well.
