COR skincare - has anyone tried it and found it worked for problem skin?

Before I drop a ridiculous amount of cash on this soap and moisturiser as plugged in Saturday's TIMES beauty column, has anyone else found it worked well on their spots?

... I meant to google that today. MIL gave me some dosh to spend 'on something frivolous for myself' ... if that worked on my rosacea it'd do more for my appearance than new clothes.

Sycamoretree · 11/01/2009 22:57

Grimma can you tell me what acne rosacea is? I read about it in her article and have seen it written before, but how would one know if one had it?

In the last six months, my skin has started behaving like it did when I was 17 again....I have tried everything. It's driving me mad - my skin was so great through both my pregnancies and I haven't had spots like this in over 10 years.

I saw this in the Times too and am sorely tempted, but have tried so many things before.
It could be clever advertising?
Would love to think it would sort me out!

Sycamoretree · 11/01/2009 23:09

IN the past I have loved the couple of make-up products I've bought having seen then in this column, so I sort of believe the story is genuine. I was just hoping someone else could vouch for it, so it is more than just a fluke of one woman's skin being so responsive to this particular product.

The site that sells it also sells another brand called Arcona or something, which sells a specific acne mini kit for 110 quid. I started getting a bit dazzled by that, as the COR stuff isn't advertised as for acne specifically.

In total it's about 120 quid (sorry, no pound sign on my pc as it was bought in the US) as I guess you have to buy the moisturiser as well as the soap and swear off all other brands and don't put anything else on your skin to really find out if it works or not...

I read the same article and have looked at the glowgetter website. Have just bought the travel size soap for £8.00 (supposed to last 2 weeks according to reviews I have read) so I will let you know. For what it's worth, all reviews I have read on the net are very positive.

Sycamoretree · 12/01/2009 18:10

Thanks Rumpole - I might try that travel sized one too. Keep us posted!

Sycamore: rosacea is quite different to normal acne. You may get some spots, but the main thing is areas of reddening (in my case on my cheeks), together with general flushing in response to cold, heat, alcohol, spicy food, being stressed-up... life really . I would have acne if I wasn't on an appropriate oral contraceptive (Dianette for a while in the past, now Marvelon) - real spots and blackheads on nose, chin and forehead -the T zone. I don't really get rosacea there (some people get red noses though).

Here is a link googled at random - mine isn't as bad as the lady in the photo.

I'm considering this too - has anyone actually tried it? Keep us updated Rumpole

Rumpole · 20/01/2009 20:18

Still waiting for my order to be delivered. Glowgetter v slow! Has been a week so hoping it will turn up soon...

Rumpole · 22/01/2009 18:57

At last - received my order. Apparently glowgetter have been overrun since the Times article and their orders are backed up.

Reading the science bit, the idea is that you leave the lather on your skin for up to 5 minutes if you have acne/problem skin. They reckon that you will see a difference in a week.

It goes on and tightens up a bit like a face mask. It has left my skin feeling squeaky clean but surprisingly not dry. In fact rather soft and baby-like (but then am always overexcited by new product)

I'll let you know if there is a dramatic difference

franch · 22/01/2009 19:59

Please do! I'l be very interested. I've been off soap since I hit my mid-30s, and was advised by a beautician not to use any 'detergent' based products - so I'll be particularly interested to know if it's at all drying.

It always seems to come down to a choice between zits and wrinkles

Rumpole - I knows it's early days, but....any minor miracles to report as yet?

OP posts:
Rumpole · 25/01/2009 20:14

Definite improvement. Not cured!

Just to give you info for comparison. I am the sort of person who if I use a cheap cleanser or soap my skin will flare up and get red and irritated, dry out and be impossible to soothe for days.

I had a few spots as a teenager and grew out of them but my skin has always been oily and prone to them esp around period. I had perfect skin when I was pregnant with my ds and then afterwards all went downhill.

Had really bad episode of acne and went to doctor and was prescribed dianette.

My acne is not awful but bad enough. I get sore red lumps on my cheeks and jawline. Only about 2 or 3 at a time. I also find my skin has red marks over my cheeks which get worse as and when.

I am not sure if the dianette is having a huge effect to be honest. Just finishing my third month and been told to be patient. Skin definitely less oily and less spots coming but not the miracle I was hoping for.

Post Cor: (3 days now)

My skin is generally calmer (usually prone to looking inflamed or redder after night out or not much sleep etc). Red marks duller. Normally after I cleanse my skin looks worse but actually looks better now.

It has dried out the spots I had and my skin feels like it is healing.

I have been using my normal moisturiser as well (dermalogica active moist) which has never given my any problems. The product advice does suggest you may be able to go without a moisturiser but I can't. I think if you have very oily skin you probably could.

It is not drying like soap - it feels like a medicated mask when it is on. I want to give it the full week or so and see if my skin continues to improve or whether it will just plateau like everything else. But I agree with the Times article. It has made it more bearable to look in the mirror. I will update you again in a few days but it is all good so far. Very impressed.

Sorry for long post but know that everyone's skin differs so much - better you know the state of mine

Rumpole · 25/01/2009 20:19

Just seen this on the glowgetter website:

Waiting List - Dear Customers, due to huge demand this year for the COR range, we are temporarily out of stock and are awaiting new shipment. If you would like to order please go ahead as normal and you will go onto the waiting list. We anticipate your order will then be with you in two to three weeks.

I think glowgetter are the only UK distributor?

Sycamoretree · 25/01/2009 22:37

Rumpole - your skin story almost exactly mirrors mine, so this is encouraging. Will keep watch on the thread!

Yes, keep updating us Rumpole! Thanks for being the guinea pig!!

Well, a week in and my skin has improved. I think it is great. Still not cured but actually starting to think my mineral foundation is partly to blame. Have read that bismuth oxide and mica can cause irritation and acne in sensitive skin. Am going to try a mineral foundation without these ingredients.

Cor's marketing says it is anti-bacterial and it does leave your skin feeling really clean but without drying your skin out like some products do. You do feel like it is a medicated cleanser.

You have to be careful though and follow instructions. Accidentally left it on longer than the maximum 5 minutes running after ds and got a burning sensation, skin very red afterwards

If you have very oily skin, it would be perfect. I would recommend it without hesitation.

If you have sensitive skin, I would try the travel size first as it is unlike anything I have ever tried before. Having said that my skin reacts to anything and everything and mine was fine as long as I followed the instructions.

Good luck if you try it!

Rumpole · 13/02/2009 21:39

Have stopped using it now. After just over 3 weeks (ish) my skin started to get really dry in patches. Has cleared spots but I couldn't use this long-term. Has anyone else had any success or tried arcona? Still looking for something I can use all the time.

Christiana thanks for the advice. I am going to look into it now. It sounds fantastic.

Hi there just seen your postings, and wanted to say that I tried the Cor skin care range (having read the article in the Sunday Times) - and was so excited about the prospect of finally being clear of my occasionally acne prone skin. I've had monthly acne spots, (just one or two), on my chin since my mid twenties. After the first week I found the products were making my skin really dry (I was using the serum and moisturiser, as well as the soap). After 2 weeks I noticed lots of very small spots appearing on my chin (I've never had this before, and think it may have been the serum/moisturiser which were both very thick and sticky). I perservered with just the soap and serum, and then just the soap, but the rash of little spots on my chin got worse and quite red and raw, with the appearance of larger spots. In short the products may work for some people, but they made my skin a lot worse, I'm glad you only bought the soap and not all three products like me!

Rumpole · 07/03/2009 21:48

Hi eleven, sorry to hear it didn't work out for you too. I found it really drying too after a couple of weeks and can see how it might irritate skin. Have a look at Christiana's thread (above). I have been using the oil cleansing method she recommended for a couple of weeks and my skin feels really good (not perfect but much improved). I still use a sunblock and a moisturiser and can recommend dermalogica active moist - doesn't clog pores and stops skin drying out.

My skin is quite sensitive and I adjusted the ratios a bit to use less castor oil to stop my skin drying out in patches. Would recommend it. Hope you find something that works.

eleven · 09/03/2009 12:31

Hi Rumpole - thank you! Will definitely give that a try.
