and are they worth the money? My sister really suffer with cold extremities - think she might be on the verge of Raynauds - so wondering if cashmere will be of any help. TIA

My cashmere jumpers are heavenly & warm so I'd say yes.

Also I've bought silk mix thermal vests from M&S they are absolutely fantastic.

OhBling · 10/01/2009 22:46

Yes yes yes! I love my cashmere gloves. Keep my hands so warm!

macherie · 10/01/2009 22:48

Cashmere jumpers, socks, and scarves are definately worth buying, but cashmere gloves don't keep my hands warm enough, I need leather, preferably lined.

I hate winter with a passion, but it's more bareable with warm finers and toes

SueW · 10/01/2009 22:48

Yes.

I have bought cashmere sweaters for work and no longer have to wear my coat in my 16C office.

My favourite "being sick" presents have been my white company cashmere bed socks. Fantastic!

Thanks for your replies. Can I ask where you get your cashmeres and how much do you expect to pay?

I normally buy gloves from House of Fraser for about £25.

john lewis and M&S do good cashmere

white company is lovely, especially the socks

the pure collection do great jumpers, cardys and bits, they have a sale on at the mo.

and brora is the bees knees!

I LOVE CASHMERE! So snug.

littlerach · 11/01/2009 13:09

I have cashmere socks and they are amazing.
I suffer with v cold feet and these warm them up.

NotQuiteCockney · 11/01/2009 13:12

I think cashmere socks don't last at all, do they? Cashmere is not hard-wearing. So maybe for bedsocks, but not for normal wear.

Merino wool is very warm, very soft, and much harder-wearing. Layers also help - thin inner socks, then warm outer ones.

I know nothing about Reynauds, but I do know that keeping your head and core warm can help with extremities. So a nice hat, and some nice thermals (uniqlo do nice ones - or merino?) could make a difference.

prettybird · 11/01/2009 13:16

Silk gloves and socks are great. In really close weather, I often wear them underneath other socks/gloves.

And I agree abut cashmere - it is great for warmth.

VersdeSociete · 11/01/2009 13:16

Get sheepskin! Only thing which ever keeps my feet warm - sheepskin bots. Am sure you can get skeepskin mittens too...

VersdeSociete · 11/01/2009 13:16

Er "boots"

Cloudhopper · 11/01/2009 13:21

I bought a cashmere jumper off ebay and was amazed how warm it was considering how light it is.

lovely - would recommend

puppydetox · 11/01/2009 13:25

i don't find cashmere particularly warmer than any other natural fibre, although it is much more comfortable next to the skin. alpaca, on the other hand, is a hollow fibre and is definitely noticeably warmer. something like baby alpaca is very fine as well so shouldn't prickle at all and is also good for people with lanolin allergies.

i'm nesh - as my mum would say - and indoors i wear lambswool armwarmers (fingerless, so can type) and lambskin (ugg-type) slippers which works a treat.
