My 'moustache' is darkening, what do you recommend?

Old age is setting in and the hairs above my top lip are getting more visible. What do you recommend for dealing with this? I'm not very good at grooming, so need an easy fix. Should I try a home bleaching kit, or am I best to get them removed - if so, is waxing better, or should I try electrolysis? Not really sure what my options are, so please help.

waxing is good I find
bleaching is awful, gives you a tache that glistens in the sun

girlandboy · 09/01/2009 10:19

I bleach mine! Works a treat. Though I do pluck the odd "tough" hair out because it's like a bit of ruddy fuse-wire sticking out, and I'M NOT HAVING IT!!!!!

girlandboy · 09/01/2009 10:20

Oh dear, two different view-points already. On the plus side, it's not sunny here at the moment!!

tiredandgrumpy · 09/01/2009 10:22

Is waxing horribly painful? Have to admit it's the option I'm most likely to plump for, but am rather a wimpy when I have my eyebrows done & imagine it would be far more painful. How often does it normally need doing? Same for bleaching?

LOL @ fuse wire

Grow it and groom it, I say]

shinyshoes · 09/01/2009 10:22

Waxing, definately, I wax mine. I wouldn't bleach as It goes blond and i'd worry that it'll notice just as much as dark hair.

NomDePlume · 09/01/2009 10:23

the only problem with waxing is the potential for rash. Instead of a moderately subtle dark smattering of a 'tache you could end up with a big angry red blotchy rash and stubble instead.

I'd go with electrolysis, but it is £££, I think

quickdrawmcgraw · 09/01/2009 10:26

I use a combination of hair removal cream and bleach and that's the best solution for me. So every 2 months I use the removal cream and every 2 months I use bleach.

CountessDracula · 09/01/2009 10:26

waxing hurts no more than pulling a plaster off, does go red for a couple of hours but then fine

girlandboy · 09/01/2009 10:26

Great picture NomDePlume! I'll bear it in mind.

Bleaching - about once a month I suppose. Tried waxing once, never again. And it seemed to look more obvious than blonde hairs. Let's face it, your whole face has downy hair on it, but my upper lip then looked naked. I thought it just made it look obvious as to what I had done.

And it was painful

dexter73 · 09/01/2009 10:48

I get my 'tache waxed and it only stays red for about 15 mins. It does hurt briefly but only like a plaster coming off as CountessDracula said.
I have very little regrowth now after being waxed for a few years so even just before my appointment it isn't at all noticeable (and I have very dark hair!).

p1umpudding · 10/01/2009 22:06

removal using the threading techinique is very good.

WilfSell · 10/01/2009 22:12

I wax both lip and brows with Nads wax pen thingy. It is brilliant and saves lots of money on getting it done. Lip less painful than brows IMHO.

Bluestocking · 10/01/2009 22:17

Laser hair removal, it's brilliant. I went to the Sk:n clinic but I am sure there are other places that do it.

eekareindeer · 10/01/2009 22:20

I am thinking about having mine threaded plupudding. Is it more suitable for sensitive skin than waxing?

Bluestocking · 10/01/2009 22:26

I much prefer threading to waxing for any facial hair "issues".

tiredandgrumpy · 10/01/2009 23:09

Forgot about threading. Had eyebrows threaded once and far far worse than waxing. Never again!
