New Year, new resolution: healthy living and positive thinking in 2009

Welcome to 2009 everyone.

This is where we try to support each other to eat healthily, take better care of ourselves and think positively.

It used to be called a 'bootcamp' but it's really more forgiving than that, especially if you're poorly (as most of us were in December) or you've just had a baby (congratulations Chutneymary).

Everyone is welcome (I would put that in capitals but don't want to shout).

Our suggestions:-

Eat healthily;
Exercise regularly;
Drink plenty of water/other clear fluids;
No alcohol during the week;
Use body lotion/hand cream/extract of donkey testicles regularly (can you tell what I've been watching with dd over Christmas?);
Get enough rest (Ha!);
Focus on three (well, at least one) positive achievements, however small, every day and try to post it/them here.

Have I missed any?

Join us! Or if you're (still) here already, stick with us!

Glad puppy is better.

And your back Saggars! Is your dd going in for tests or treatment?

I have just remembered that we have 2 unopened bottles of blardy Baileys-alike which we never got round to drinking at Christmas. It's only about a zillion calories per thimbleful but so nice over ice...and I am still valiantly ploughing through our Christmas choc.

Moonshine - she's going for cardiac catheter (angiogram with bells on) under GA. She's had them before and really it's not the test that bothers me - it's what may come after. We have a date now though so will box it off for a few weeks. And ditch the booze

moonshine · 17/01/2009 15:19

Fingers crossed for your dd Saggars - and don't worry about the booze too much - sometimes you just gotta to whatever it takes to get you through certain events.

eemie · 18/01/2009 14:55

Saggars, I'm sleeping much better now after almost three weeks alcohol free. Like you I can drop off easily after a drink but wake early. Am getting better quality of sleep now. Hope same will apply to you.

Sunny here today - motivated to tackle spare room .

Not so good with body lotion, will try harder.
No exercise worth mentioning, but sciatica improved, so will ease back in to it.
Weight down a bit further - despite a certain amount of chocolate...

Hi can I join?

I'm a bit down in the dumps today so this is just what I need!!!!!

My 3 good things for today........

  • Not had a drink today (not that I'm an alcoholic just been a bit too fond of a couple of glasses in the evening)
  • Finally got af (which I hate but I have been waiting a long time for it and was panicking so relieved it's here plus I can hopefully stop having PMT, I'm sure people are starting to avoid me )
  • My overdraught was down to nearly £500 (was closer to £2k for much of last year)

Things I need to do this year..

Grow my nails
Tone up
Dress like a woman that cares about what she looks like (best friends fav saying is "have you brushed your hair lately?" she knows I wash and brush it daily but often looks like I've been dragged through a hedge!)
Have money in the bank!
Make my business thrive
Build my confidence in my own abilities.

I'm sure theres more.........but they'll do for now

eemie · 20/01/2009 07:53

Welcome Lovemygirls Happy New Year

LoveMyGirls · 20/01/2009 18:28

Thank you

Good things today -

  • have had quite a good day (still feel ill etc but overall a good day!)
  • managed to put a hold on my bridesmaid dress order which means I will get less grief
  • Dp is bathing dd's so I can MN clean the kitchen in peace.

Anyone else got a good list?

JJ · 20/01/2009 22:07

Am having a nervy week and residually teary from a stupid van nearly hitting my youngest n a zebra crossing this morning.

But I have three good things:
1 - nice unexpected chat with a friend this afternoon
2 - due to signal failure on tube, ds1 and I had to get off at Kings Cross but were early so stopped at M&S in St Pancras for better lunches. Result!
3 - dinner was good and not only "make again" (the ranking system in our house is, broadly, "make again" and "don't make again") but also easy peasy.

And 4, I guess - son not getting hit by stupid van, although I could have done with no incident with van whatsoever.

The rest of the week is manic but with nice things. And I've just realised my son's birthday is this coming Monday and not the next and I'd better think about getting him some gifts. DH in NY for next week and a half, so it has to be done during school time over the next couple of days, ack!

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 21/01/2009 11:23

Gosh JJ, glad you're both OK.

My bootcamping is bad. Nuff said.

moonshine · 21/01/2009 17:48

Glad you are both ok JJ - I hate inattentive drivers at zebra crossings with a passion and often shout at them (dh sometimes bangs their car with his fist )

Welcome LoveMyGirls - when's the wedding?

The bootcamping wagon seems to have stopped coming chez Moonshine and I have been Bad. But I can finally get to the gym this Friday for the first time this year and am hoping it will kickstart me again. I shall also endeavour to try and look more groomed. This week the task is tidy up my nails and use my hand cream more regularly.

Ds had a major wobble this week about school but he seems to have now got over it for the time being. He seems to have grown up already these past 2 weeks.

3 good things

  1. I did not go to Boots and buy half the store as usual, instead hunted round in my drawers and am determined to use up or throw away all the half-used lotions and potions.
  1. Work is currently slightly better atm as is it's busy but not overwhelmingly so.
  1. Have started my period which always makes me feel more chipper.
eemie · 22/01/2009 09:18

Hope you're feeling steadier today JJ. Focus on the positives - you got your child across safely.

I'm quite phobic about traffic (had a 20-year driving phobia). After a fright I find it helps to make a point of noting all the examples of considerate driving for a while - they're all around, but unless I make the effort I only notice the idiots.

Did the school walk this morning despite blustery rain and feel better for it.

A point about exercise, for those who are struggling a bit like me - it only needs to be regular, it doesn't need to be much. If you can't make the gym/pool, can you walk for half an hour? Or a quarter of an hour? Or jog on the spot for five minutes? It all helps.

Call in and let us know how you are, everyone

Trying not to be a stranger but obviously failing I do keep thinking 'Oh, that's another positive for the list' so its working even if I'm not posting!

JJ - hope you have both managed to calm down a bit more. We have had a similar nervy incident this week as DH wrote(!) off his car yesterday after hitting black ice and ending up in a ditch. He was very shaken and had a bloody nose from contact with the airbag but it could have been much worse.

Moonshine - I seem to remember DD having a wobble last year a few weeks after starting school. I think she suddenly realised that this was it for the next 12 years (or however 4 yr olds translate that!)

3 things for today:

  1. DH took most of day off work to recover (big thing as self-employed) and we watched the Andy Murray tennis match on our new, embarrasingly huge TV
  2. May have found a time to do school reading book with DD so that it is fun rather than a chore (watch this space to see if it works for more than a day or two)
  3. Feeling the effects (in a good way!) of the tennis I played last night. Haven't played for over 6 years but signed up for a 'Rusty Rackets' tennis course that started last week. I've loved it so far.

Maybe everyone has hit a bit of a slump? It's dull and rainy today & the rush of New Year enthusiasm is starting to wear off.

Does anyone think a shiny new thread would help?
