Does it work?

I'm sitting here with the tooth guard thingies in my mouth and hating it. Will it do any good or can I give up now?

Hope you're not still sitting there wearing them, Lynette! What's the outcome- good, or no frigging different?

LynetteScavo · 05/01/2009 10:37

I have to wear them for 20 mins, twice a day for two weeks. I haven't noticed any difference yet.

Don't do home whitening. Either they aren't strong enough and make no difference or too strong and cause gum irritaion and tooth sensitivity. Go to a dentist and have proper trays made, expert instruction and take it from there. The instore/online products are at best a waste of money and potentially harmful. There has been much talk about banning them.

I've given up, ComeOVEneer...couldn't stand the dribbling!

And my teeth are still sensivive - and I only had two sessions!

I had trays made by a dentist, but was never able to use them more than 2 or 3 times before having to give up for at least 3 weeks. Very painful.
My teeth gradually got a bit whiter, but I managed to melt the tray by boiling it when it looked mouldy!
Am now planning to try an at-home thing with u/v light.
I'd love to know what to do if you have teeth which are grotty but sensitive.

I read that Pearl Drops do a paint on whitener- but it comes off when you drink or eat- was hoping it might be good for a hot date- but possibly not

mrsmaidamess · 07/01/2009 19:41

I used Colgate teeth whitening strips from the States and they really did whiten my teeth.

LynetteScavo · 07/01/2009 23:09

What do you actually do with Colage whiteniing strips, mrsmaidamess?

They are clear plastic strips with gel on them. You peel the backing off, fold them around your teeth, and leave them on for 20 - 30 mins each day.

I have only done my top teeth, and in 10 days I saw a marked improvement. They don't make you retch when you've got them in either.

They are cheaper on ebay than I paid for them.

katch · 08/01/2009 16:32

I heard they could cause a slightly mottled effect as they can slip off - is this not true then?

GrapeJelly · 08/01/2009 19:36

I was told the same as CoV. Have heard good things about Colgate or Crest whitening strips too. The PD paint on whitener is utter, utter sh*te. costs about £7 and doesn't make your teeth whiter but just makes them look a bit sparkly. Tastes foul and washes off easily. The biggest waste of £7 I have ever spent. Can you save up £300 for the dentist ones? They are the best option if you can afford them.

mrsmaidamess · 08/01/2009 21:46

katch they do not slip off if you press them in snugly. Just don't swallow them by mistake!

katch · 08/01/2009 23:06

And do they cause sensitivity?

UnfortunatelyMe · 08/01/2009 23:08

Blanx toothpaste works well.

katch · 08/01/2009 23:21

Blanx made nk difference to me, but as I said my teeth are really grotty, need heavy duty stuff.

UnfortunatelyMe · 08/01/2009 23:22

ohh it scourers my teeth nicely...not the sensitive stuff the...dunno white with blue shiny tube.
