Is 33 too old to wear leggings?

I like jumper dresses but have horrible varicose vein legs and have to wear really thick tights but was wondering if leggings would be better?

Where is the best place to get some, ones that keep their shape and don't go baggy?

Or do you think I am too old and should stick to tights?

I really hope it isn't

New Look, DPs have good leggings and footless tights

Accesorise do them i think - but they also have nice, thick, coloured tights too

if you want to really push the boat out American Apparel are good

SalBySea · 03/01/2009 18:18

hope not cause I live in them - one rule though - must always be worn with dresses or very long jumpers, legginged bums and crotch areas are not pretty

yama · 03/01/2009 18:18

I haven't bought any (yet) but am told that TopShop do nice gothic style leggings. Sexy with boots?

I would wear them and am almost 33.

wish you could edit posts on here
meant to say long tops not just jumpers

drinkmoretea · 03/01/2009 18:31

Thank you will take a trip to the shop and have a look, have just noticed Accesorize do 120 denier tights, wonder if they would keep their shape longer?

Another vote for post-33 legging wearing here . I am 38 and whilst it is something of a revisiting of my youth to slip back into leggings, I think if you observe the above rules (no bum/crotch display) then you are fine.

SilentTerror · 03/01/2009 19:50

Iam 41 and wore a black pair from New Look today, tucked into Biker Boots, with grey Uniqlo thermal top under long black, grey and brown tunic.
I put a long grey sleeveless cardigan over the lot and felt ok!

llareggub · 03/01/2009 19:55

I'm 33 and wear leggings with boots and long jumper. I bought them after seeing my step-mother (age 49) wearing them and looking fab.

MrsMattie · 03/01/2009 19:56

I'm 31 and wear leggings all the time.

Yes to leggings post 33 and even post 50 as far as I'm concerned. If I remember back to the early 90s when leggings were everywhere (at least in NYC), everyone wore them regardless of age. Seems to me if you wear something long over them, it's not a whole lot different to wearing trousers or track suite bottoms or whatever: comfy casual wear that has the potential to be dressed up. Silent Terror's description of her "look" is pretty close to my style--I think that kind of combo can look pretty great.

there's a spot on my screen and I read the title as "is 93 too old to wear leggings"! I would say no to both ages anyway, they're comfortable and warm.

drinkmoretea · 03/01/2009 20:09

wow! Kind of get the feeling I should have already been wearing them

Always behind on these things!

It's not too old at all. I would recommend DP as they do some lovely long length ones and the ones with stirrups which are handy when you are wearing boots as it stops them riding up!

higgle · 03/01/2009 20:52

I know someone who is 83 and wears leggings, and she looks very nice in them - age certainly no barrier to legging wearing. My best friend's sister is 49 and looks fantastic in thick tights and shorts this winter - I think it is just a frame of mind thing.

LiffeyAnnaLivia · 03/01/2009 21:24

Jux, you made me laugh out loud there!

I picture one of those Romanian women who had fertility at 90 and is now a busy sahm to twins!!

DonutMum · 04/01/2009 07:05

Hiya, hope not. Am 39 and just bought some purple ones and black ones from H&M to wear with sweater dresses and shorts. Given I have a great big lardy tummy and my legs are not so proportionally big, they make me look slimmer. And younger
