I bought my DD a lovely dress from John Lewis but it was a few months ago. might be worth a look?

Lulumama · 03/01/2009 18:40

DD is 3.5 but i see lots of pretty , bright dresses in Asda, with matching tights, and not expensive

H&M, zara & baby gap are my staples for DDs clothes, well, for DH, he does all the shopping

I buy on ebay. Look for Catimini (they come up small sizes!) and boden - they're generally in really good condition, look adorable (and expensive!) on, and even have resale value.

lovelysongbirdie · 03/01/2009 19:09

ruddy thanks that is lovely, i hope it fits my very tall 18month old.

corrie thanks i'll have a look
i got dd the boden pretty dress in 18-24 months and its too small.

You'll need age 2-3 for Catimini then. Even my very dinky 18mo is growing out of her 18mo catimini! French babies clearly come up titchy.

Monsoon have some lovely things for girls, their sale is fab!

Bink · 03/01/2009 19:24

Zara always used to have gorgeous toddler & little-girl dresses - dd is now 8 though so I may be out of date.

But I remember, among other things, a little scarlet needlecord cheong-sam-style dress with miniature flowers embroidered diagonally; and another soft-brown-sugar coloured needlecord pinafore with Navajo inspired (turquoise and gold) appliques and little tassels. Simple, lovely, and not at all expensive.

lovelysongbirdie · 03/01/2009 19:27

thanks corriedale
oh yes i will check out monsoon too.
ive never ever looked in zara for dd before
i always forget

Monsoon sale - some gorgeous party dresses (silky) and thicker ones (woollen).

I have an very long neice and I buy the bigger size up as most of them have sashes, so don't look too big round the tummy.

They're also really good at matching cardigans, tights, shoes and coats if you want an outfit...

ruddynorah · 03/01/2009 19:28

zara is fab but sizing comes up very small and clothes tend to be quite thin, made for layering i think.

lovelysongbirdie · 03/01/2009 19:28

oh thanks im going to look at there site online right now

OP posts:
lovelysongbirdie · 03/01/2009 20:03

what size do you think dd would need in monsoon if boden 18-24 months is too small?

OP posts:
Bink · 03/01/2009 20:12

Monsoon is mini - I'd go for two years up (so age 3-4).

(My ds grew out of their boys' range - which is supposed to go to age 8 - at 5; and dd, who fits into anything (she's 8, but can still wear some things she had when she was 3) finds Monsoon stuff tight.)

Anna8888 · 03/01/2009 20:15

I went to the pre-sales at Bonton today and got DD four gorgeous grey dresses (she has to wear grey/navy to school) at a good discount. The sale proper starts on Wednesday - if you get on the website early in the morning you will find loads of stuff.

lovelysongbirdie · 03/01/2009 20:16

what about age 2-3?

flipping eck ive got a giant on my hands here

MrsBadger · 03/01/2009 20:22

well dd's otherwise lovely hooded Jojo one has shrunk beyond redemption after one wash and is now a top

so be warned

lovely stuff on justdresses.co.uk, prices to match though

Anna8888 · 03/01/2009 20:23

In case you are interested, I got the Apron Dress in "noir charbon", the Corduroy Dress in "gris foullis" (she already has it in the pink and it is lovely), the Flounced Dress in "gris noctambule" and the Thin Stitch Dress in "gris", plus the Knit Striped Leggings in blue/grey.

The sizes aren't generous - I am already buying size 8 year old for my average height 4.3 year old DD (so that they will last a couple of seasons).

nappyaddict · 03/01/2009 20:27

that website is awful Anna, the clothes are solovely but it is so difficult to view them..........dh has cousins in paris, would it be worth me going sale shopping there one year for fun?

Anna8888 · 03/01/2009 20:34

You cannot link to each item individually, sadly, or I would have done so. But that shop really is worth it, I promise - I always get DD's day clothes there, they are fantastically pretty and wearable and all wash and tumble dry (practically no ironing needed) brilliantly.

Children's clothes are generally AMAZING in Paris. Shoes good in UK, though (I just bought patent red Start-Rites - Clare model - last week, and pale pink Hunter wellies).
