following on from an earlier thread....Where can I find stylish, practical daytime tops - in my 30s?

I was looking around today in the sales and I wasn't too impressed.

I wondered where other mumsnetters in their 30s buy their daytime clothes from? I want stylish but practical clothes and don't want to pay a fortune. Normally I would head for Next but I find the mess of the sales too much to look in there at the moment....

Kew, Top Shop, White Stuff

notnowbernard · 30/12/2008 21:29

Gap
Warehouse
Topshop

Sometimes Primark and Hennes

uniqlo (sp?)

I have a few long sleeved t shirty type tops from there - very reasonable

fishie · 30/12/2008 21:31

don't go to next it is grim.

what size/shape are you? what do you wear on the bottom half?

cocolepew · 30/12/2008 21:33

Asda do lovely shirts I'm always being complemented

ilovespinach · 30/12/2008 21:37

I am a 10/12 with heavy thighs....managed to find some decent bootcut jeans today which will become a daytime staple. Just want some stuff to knock around in the daytime...I'd not thought about Asda...

I have this the detail is nice on it, and it's light enough to wear in the summer.

Dragonbrandybutter · 30/12/2008 21:47

have a look at uttam. not to everybody's taste but i like it.
otherwise for me it's oasis, warehouse, new look.

fishie · 30/12/2008 21:54

why you worried about being in your 30s anyway?

my colleague buying primark has had to chuck half of it after second wash. is asda any better?

i love uniqlo too, very good quality. gap has a person restyling it in america so all the clothes are vile atm. white stuff is lovely if you are the woman it suits. fat face is also worth a look.

cocolepew · 30/12/2008 21:58

Asda washes well, so do Tescos. I only buy cotton ones, Tesco had nice checked ones and Asda lovely spotty ones.

M and S is hard to beat for plain ones.

Does anyone know where I'd get a denim shirt from? I've took a notion for one.

ilovespinach · 30/12/2008 22:14

No big issue about being in my 30s - just when I went shopping today I felt a little out of place in New Look etc....

I do like white tops - bought one today from Oasis.

I am similar shape to you ilovespinach, where did you get your new jeans from? I need some but hate jeans shopping and am always getting it wrong.

I struggle with day time tops but tend to wear the blouse/tunic type tops a lot in the day with a long cardigan and skinny jeans and boots. Or I wear a shorter blouse type thing with a cardigan over with boot cut jeans and boots. Usually shope in topshop, monsoon(more in summer for monsoon) or primark. I find it hard to find tops that are loose enough to cover my tummy but not so loose that they look maternity!

MrsSeanBean · 31/12/2008 14:42

Boden mainly.
Cocolepew - they had some nice denim skirts too. May be in the sale if you're lucky.

cocolepew · 31/12/2008 23:06

Thanks I'll have a look

mosschops30 · 31/12/2008 23:12

I never buy from Asda/Tesco etc as I dont think they keep their shape or wash particularly well.

I have Top shop vests and t-shirts that Ive had for 2-3 years and I still love. Also love plain t-shirts from Gap. Loving my new long sleeved t-shirts from New Look too (£7 bargain, but am yet to see how they last)
For tops with a bit of something on try Warehouse or Oasis.
Only buy tops from next if you want to see 20 other people wearing it on the same day as you

ilovespinach · 01/01/2009 18:55

used2bthin I got some from h&m - think the style is called ''fitstar'' and I got some bootcut 629 Levis....I struggle with jeans as I need to get a 30 leg Jeans shopping was very demorilising esp with my xmas tum...I noticed they had lots of jeans in GAP too for all different shapes could be worth looking in there too.

I've just had the same problem looking round the shops, ended up coming home and ordering about 8 from Kew's sale, I half hope they are all nice as it saves me any further hassle!
