How expensive is electrolysis?

I'm thinking about it as have recently realised I have grown a "tache! well actually I have had one ages but pre DD I was really bad and did lots of subeds so it was bleached. So really I suppose my question is whether I should use facial bleach(wouldn't that also bleach the skin underneath though and make me look odd?), go to a salon and have it waxed (but would that make it grow back thicker?) or electrolysis if it is affordable and not too painful? Help!

Shouldn't be too bad for a tache. I used to pay (I think) about £25 a session when I had it done. About 45 mins I think.

7 QUID for 15 minutes, which is far outside London.

Thanks I forgot that it depends where you live. I am not in London but not that far so bet it would be pricey. Hmm how many sessions does it take does anyone know? Do you get left with odd patches while having treatment because they do a small area at a time don't they? I actually used my friends hair removal cream today so it has gone for now for the first time in years. Just hope it doesnt grow back thicker now!

You really can't predict how long it will take to completely remove hairs, depends on too many variables. I decided that I would try a year's treatments (once every 6 weeks), and then see whethr I wanted to do more.

Try laser - much more effective - costs about £35.00 for 15 mins and works best on darker hair.

megcleary · 31/12/2008 19:47

does laser last long?

used2bthin · 31/12/2008 20:47

Oh I am interested in laser, not heard of that one before, tell me more?

i had electrolysis years ago and it didn't make much difference.

i use the facial waxing strips from Boots these days, hasn't grown back thicker. as long as you use them in the evening on clean skin they are pretty effective and the redness calms down over night.

used2bthin · 31/12/2008 22:10

Thanks Meglet might give that a go. My friends Nair has done the trick but did give me a bit of a rash to start with. Luckily that was in the evening its ok now still slightly tender though. Electrolysis didn't make much difference? I thought it killed the hair follicle or something? Did it not work? That must have been so disappointing with the cost.

Laser depends on how thick your hair is. It is more effective on thicker darker hair - if you have fine pale hair will be less effective. Each session (if on your face) takes about 15 minutes. The laser feels like little pin pricks on your face, accompanied by a blast of cold cold air. It's not terribly painful, depends on how sensitive you are really. All the hair usually goes away after a treatment and stays away for up to eight weeks until the hair growth cycle starts again. Best to go when you are at your hairiest IYKWIM so that you will catch all the hairs at once.
It took me about two years to get the hairs to an acceptable thickness, now they are fine and downy so I just bleach them. But everyone is different and some people only need to go a couple of times. I think I am just from good swarthy peasant stock

Go to your local college, the students need people to train on in order to pass their course. The are very closely supervised by a lecturer.
