Which one do you think I should wear to a wedding ? At this rate I'm going to be wearing my jeans and wellies !

wordsmith · 27/03/2005 23:46

The frilly skirts with lacy bits showing on the hippy collection page are just what I wore as a teenager in the 70's!

Was hip cool chick without even realising it, 3o yrs ahead of my time.

hahahah, I do like the topshop website generally bit hadn't seen this stuff before and it is truly hideous. This whole boho chic thing is annoying me anyway.

I have my mum's old kaftan from the '70s in my wardrobe ... brown and beige swirly number ...
It is only a matter of time now before I can wear it and be very 'in vogue'!! She was about 38 when she wore it ... I am 35 now ....

BethAndHerBrood · 28/03/2005 21:17

They look like Margo from "The Good Life" would wear them!!!!!!

gingerbear · 29/03/2005 15:44

thats what I thought Beth!!

I remember borrowing mum's orange and brown kaftan, belting a cushion round my middle, false beard and lip-synching to Demis Roussoss at my junior school end of year concert (brought the house down.....)

for all those too young to remember...here is said songster

OMG Im sure Ive got one of those blue dreses in the back of the cupboard somewhere (was a hippy chick when younger). Cor Ill sell it to anyone who wants it for £85!! In fact Ill sell it for less. Didnt know these were in!!!!

Sponge · 29/03/2005 16:09

I had one just like the white one with the lacy bits too - and I loved it. But I was about 13 and I didn't pay £50 for it.
Never found anything I like in Topshop though.

OldieMum · 29/03/2005 16:55

My mother was already in her 50s by the 1970s, so I was spared the excruciating embarrassment of seeing her in a cheesecloth number (or even a short miniskirt in the 60s). There's a lot to be said for having your children later in life...

pabla · 29/03/2005 17:38

I absolutely refuse to wear anything that I can remember wearing when it was fashionable for the first time (like ponchos) - unless I never stopped wearing it! I bought some new magazine recently which is supposed to be aimed at the 30+ market. Half the clothes featured looked like maternity smocks - which I never wore even when I was pregnant. I can't imagine these dresses flattering even a skinny supermodel.
