Comfortable shoes[shock] for a woman who hates comfortable shoes

I need a pair of comfortable, but stylish, shoes for general day wear.

I am quite open about my shoe obsession and lovingly pour over my collection of beautiful high heels, killer stilettos and unbelievably high boots. But those days are at an end for now and I need shoes I can go to the park in, walk a few miles in (in London so not muddy walking)

The most comfortable shoes I currently have are trainers and my timberlands but sometimes I want to look a bit smarter and am looking for some flat black comfortable boots/shoes. I have always been a fan of the cowboy boot (well, a version of cowboy boots and like pointy shoes)

I have long boots in black and brown which are brilliant but need something to wear under jeans / trousers. I don't want to spend more than about £90 unless they're stunning.

Thank you!

MM

I was totally into your post ... until you got to the price. One of the great mysteries of the shoe universe for me is why it's relatively easy to buy gorgeous beautiful high heel shoes for practically nothing but... try find a decent pair of flat shoes that don't make you look like a granny and you have to fork out hundreds of quid! Drives me crazy.

Flat boots from Russel and Bromley tend to be gorgeous. But expensive. I have also in the past bought flat boots from Jigsaw which were quite pricey - but I'm not sure if they're doing any this year.

If you want nice moccasin types, Clarks and Jones Bootmaker do a surprisingly good range (I'm planning to pick up a new pair soon in fact) at relatively good prices. But obviously, not as warm as boots.

Good luck. If you are successful let me know so I can rush out and copy you!

Bumping as I'm interested as well....

monkeysmama · 29/12/2008 11:08

Thanks - I will have a look at R&B. Am going shopping later and will see what I can find. I can spend more than 90 but have already bought 2 pairs of long boots (loved the brown so bought the black too )

Try here they have some great shoes.

WilfSell · 29/12/2008 16:02

They are a bit chunky but I have become a HUGE fan of Fly wedges (boots, shoes, everything). You can order them from Amazon, they come in many styles/colours they cost about 70 quid or less and they give height, heel AND (the best bit) you can walk miles in them.

these ones within swedes' link are cowboy-ish

I am also a fan of fly wedges.
I got a pair from next directory last season. They may be doing them again in spring, you never know!

ChestnutsRoastingonanOpenFlier · 29/12/2008 16:20

they have some fly boots in the next sale, not many sizes left though, and if you go to www.next.co.uk/ss09, you can browse the new season catalogue

Yunyun · 29/12/2008 16:26

I bought a pair of these from Amazon today.

RRP £55, now £13.75

I have one pair already, and am a bit peeved at the recent price reduction of 75% off (so to justify I bought myself another pair today). They are super comfy, lined in leather and very well made. Does not yell Dr Martens (I hate their boots).

moocowme · 31/12/2008 21:09

found out i have athritis in my feet a couple of years ago and told can only wear orthapedic shoes in my current job if i want to keep being able to walk with less pain.

went thru the usual i-want-to-die-i-am-only-in-my-thirties-please-god-their-must-be-orthapedic-shoes-for-people-younger- than-90-out-their.

prayers answered www.dansko.com It was hard to find someone that shipped to the UK online so I usually buy them of ebay now.

I can only say that these shows are like walking on pillows compared to normal shoes. I have about 6 pairs now and never wear anything else. must say i can barely feel the arthritis now.

well worth the investment of trying out one pair to see what they do.

MrsSeanBean · 31/12/2008 21:25

Ecco.

onebatmotherofgoditschilly · 31/12/2008 21:33

I have an astonishing pair of dull silver, slightly elasticated pumps with a button-close strap from.. Clarks. The leather is pigskin-soft. They were about £35 quid, and people stopped and asked me where I got them from.

They are without doubt the softest, most cushioned, most comfortable shoes I've ever had.

Hold on.

Nope, sorry, can't get teh clarks website to work.

onebatmotherofgoditschilly · 31/12/2008 21:34

sorry they came in black as well

KatieMorag · 31/12/2008 21:39

is this them?

Yurtgirl · 31/12/2008 21:49

Yunyun - those are lovely but seem to be £49 in most sizes

onebatmotherofgoditschilly · 31/12/2008 22:02

No - but they are bloody lovely.
They don't appear to do them any more - but I imagine they're all pretty comfy and the 'originals' range has got some funky stuff in, along those lines. Ankle boots and such like.

Yunyun · 31/12/2008 22:14

Yurtgirl - yesterday they still had those shoes in most sizes at £13.75. But by early this morning nearly all gone.
Those shoes at £49 are from Amazon Marketplace.

But Amazon still have the same shoe in the Mary Jane style for £27.50.
