Help me find an outfit to wear to a winter wedding

Can you help me find something to wear to a quite posh family wedding in january.

I am tall and apple shaped with big norks and tum and good legs - size 16 ish on top, less on bottom

I dont usually wear skirts but fancy something jewel coloured, floaty and knee length - maybe like this

www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10001_10001_66154_727407_-1

although I need something a bit more structured on top, maybe with a jacket to hide the wobbly bits and keep out the cold.

Any ideas? I really want to look nice, but I dont know where to start..

this is nice with a jacket or the accessories shown?

This is emerald green, with a pretty neckline

green monsoon dress

I think this is beautiful

They have this is midnight blue, emerald green and ruby red:

Think this jacket would be perfect for almost any dress
velvet party jacket

Wow - Thanks - Lovely dresses especially the last one. My worry is that being apple shaped, I would have to get a bigger size to fit around the middle and then the a line will look really big.

What is a good dress shape for an apple shape, I just dont know and dont want to end up looking like a standard lamp

is it Littlewoods that use Trinny and Susanna and they recommend clothes items depending on your shape.

see if they do that on the website.

Rhubarb, I have this dress which is very similar to the one you posted but perhaps a bit more forgiving of lumps and bumps etc (covered shoulders, tie waist). I don't like the way the model is standing in it (makes it look like a maternity dress) but if you click on "enlarge" you get a picture of just the dress. It's very flattering IRL and even though I have a totally different body shape than you I think it would look great with big norks

Monkeys - that one looks good too. I do like red. Probably good to cover up the arms in case I want to jake my jacket off. How do you find the length, is it just below the knee like on the model.

Thanks again!

Have a look at the Phase Eight website, it's good for ideas even if you don't order from them, and they group clothes by occasion (winter wedding included):

My2Monkeys · 15/12/2008 20:01

Yes, just below the knee, but I'm tall.

My2Monkeys · 15/12/2008 20:02

Just saw that you're tall too, so it would probably be the same on you!

bluesky · 15/12/2008 20:54

have spent ages playing on the littlewoods website, once it finally loaded. Go into 'women' and then 'shape advisor', it's divided into apples, pears, hourglass, bell, skittle, cello, column, brick, cornet, lollipop......!!!

then once you have your shape it tells you what suits, what definitely doesn't and then suggests clothes from the various ranges. very clever!

I am now going back to it! V. sad!

CliffRichardSucksEggsInHell · 16/12/2008 14:23

Erm, can I just say that rhubarbp2 is not Rhubarb?

Sorry OP, it's just that I'm normally Rhubarb but this is, ahem, my Christmas name. I would want Mumsnetters to think that I'm seeking their opinions on fashion - 'twould ruin my reputation!

rhubarbp2 · 16/12/2008 15:25

Oops - sorry Rhubarb
