Spanx- anyone got em? Are they good, and do they (as my mother says) make you sweaty and sore?!

Just got some yesterday (in the sale at Debenhams, bargain!) and while they seem good - are they going to make me all minging? Last thing I need is Spanx induced thrush... Could you wear knickers underneath? I know this would render the weeing flap useless but still?

I have some (were recommended by a MNer) and they are fabby! Not at all sweaty or minging. Don't wear knickers underneath them, you really don't need them.

Ignore your mother!

I am slightly concerned that in a slightly stiff breeze people may be given an unsightly view of my uterus...

I have some and think they're fab, not in the least bit uncomfortable, I forget I have them on when I'm wearing them! I actually think this is down to what shape you are naturally, spanx kind of force you into an hourglass, if you arn't naturally that shape anyway I can see how they might get uncomfortable.
You don't get sweaty or stuffy in them like you do other brands at all and agree no need for knickers either.

ahh

RumMum · 12/12/2008 12:22

couldn't find wee flaps

PurlyQueen · 12/12/2008 12:30

But doesn't the fat just bulge elsewhere?

ByThePowerOfBaileys · 12/12/2008 12:33

they are brilliant - don't wear knicks underneath I have the higherpower spanx and in them I can wear my size 14 trousers and dresses and without I cant

JetLi · 12/12/2008 12:33

Love mine - high waisted with shorts. The weeing flap is next to useless - I end up weeing on my fingers, so I've given it up. For goodness sake don't fall into bed in them, in a drunken stupor or your legs won't work the next morning.
Also, mine seem to have some kind of in-built homing device. Wherever I am in the house, secretly adorning said garment, DP will always wander in and catch me. Honestly it isn't a pretty sight, getting into them.
Sooo glad he has a sense of humour.

glitterkitty · 12/12/2008 12:39

HaTE mine, have below bra to shorts full body ones- the bottom half is fine, but the top just rolls down, useless, have never worn it because of this! Lovely back fat just bulges over, ugh.

They come with litle strap things that your meant to attach to your bra to stop this butthey are far too lightweight, & just drags your bra down, the whole spanx things a massive CON IMHO.

themoon66 · 12/12/2008 13:00

I got a full length tits to crotch ensemble. Marvellous.

rempy · 12/12/2008 13:03

Mine rolled up at the top, the really massive ones. So I had boobs, roll of spanx, flattish belly/waist/hips. Not convinced. Wee flap periously close to being too small.

wideratthehips · 12/12/2008 14:00

i always rave about these ones and there is a cotton gusset so no need for underwear....the flab doesn't get moved elsewhere it gets sucked in...so its all smoother and flatter...these have never rolled down/up and i think they are wonderful

bohemianbint · 12/12/2008 14:03

I've got the hardcore tits to crotch pants. Seems like there's a 50/50 split here, will report back after wedding tomorrow.

I wouldn't put it past my DH to get all sorts of wrong ideas re the flap...

wideratthehips · 12/12/2008 14:03

i'm not pleased with spanx either after i tried their mama spanx tights and they shreaded after one wear..aaargh

boredveryverybored · 12/12/2008 14:06

I was worried about them rolling down at the top, I have the ones that come from under your bra down to shorts. Every other brand I have had has rolled down, the spanx never have on me.

MadreInglese · 12/12/2008 14:08

I think it depends on your body shape and whether you have got the right size/style spanx.

My main problem is muffin top/midriff bulge and I tried spanx (many styles and sizes) but could not get them to stay up so were a bit pointless for me.

waitingforgodot · 12/12/2008 14:18

I have a pair and while they make me look good, if I am going out for dinner, they are sooo uncomfortable to have on while stuffing my face!

PurlyQueen · 12/12/2008 21:49

OK - I'm sold on the idea. I have just ordered a pair. But if I look like an overstuffed sausage, I will be blaming all of you

bohemianbint · 16/12/2008 17:41

ok, update time. I loved them, they made me almost sylph-like without rolling down. I did not trust the wee flap though, and wriggled out of them everytime to avoid smelling of mad bag lady aroma at nice posh wedding.

bohemianbint · 16/12/2008 17:43

oh, and whilst no-one got any Sharon Stone-esque glimpses, I might have been worried in a shorter frock.
