So I have once again promised my mum that I will spend some of the money she sends me for xmas on myself and not all on the kids.

I have decided that my skin needs some looking after (getting old).

I want a facial mask and someone recommended the No. 7 eye uplifting creme? (eyelids starting to droop)

What do I want? It has been years and years and years since I spent any money on skin care. Have almost always had fantastic skin but pores starting to get larger now so want something to deal with that.

please help

Good facial masks?

Neal's Yard have a rose moisturiser that works as a moisturiser, a cleanser and a facial mask. I bought it but must confess I found it hard to find the time in the day to ever actually use it as a mask. I was dying to try the Eve Lom one that is sort of the same but my experience with the NY one put me off trying. But both get good reviews.
I'm always really wary of eye-tightening things. I'm hi-jacking your post a bit here but I would love to know the following:
"Tightening" things dry and pull the skin in a bit as they dry and tighten. That seems to be how they work, so you get an impression of your skin being tighter. But surely the skin around your eyes is really delicate, so all that pulling, even though it's really miniscule, must surely actually hasten the effect you're trying to avoid? And wouldn't it put you on an escalator to fine lines?

really? Hadn't thought of it that way but makes sense

what is Eve Lom? Can you see how out of it I am?

Eve Lom is this strange lady who set up her own beauty products line. It's expensive. She's famous for having made this cleanser/make-up remover that you put on your face, put a muslin over, then remove with said muslin. It's meant to be good for pores too. It's available at Space NK and big department stores.
People swear by it BUT I have to confess, I bought a moisturiser in the range and had a skin reaction to it, so I have never tried the famous cleanser. V. sensitive skin.
So this is why I always recommend organic-y, health-shoppy things.
I don't know about the eye-stuff, I'm curious and hoping someone will answer on that.
Good dm though.

I find the Boots Time Delay range very good. It may not be expensive enough for your mum's liking, however.

Clarins face masks are excellent and I like the packaging, but they are £20 plus.
Have you got a SpaceNK near you? They give great advice ansd have lots of very good ranges.

Ooh, meant also to say that I would buy a good moisturiser before a face mask, unless you can afford both. I think the daily dose does more good than a once-a-month treat.

You could always have a facial with your mum's money - I have a Guinot one every month and it does perk my skin up no end.

Good for you !

Clarins stuff is lovely and feels like a treat IYKWIM

Would recomend asking one of the girls on the counter you don't have to buy but you'll get a better idea of what will suit you

noiamnot · 12/12/2008 17:21

So clarins then? I think a chemist in town has a counter.

Patsy I find most moisturisers make my skin break out. Any you can recommend?

zen - I think I'd have to go to dublin to find eve lom?

Or maybe I can find on line? But my skin breaks out from most face care products so I'd be nervous dumping a lot of money to throw it out.

I'm currently loving Origins mega Mushroom skin calming mask - it's great for red, puffy winter skin.

All the Origins stuff is lush, and I love Clarins too.
