Is this too much? And am I being shallow?

Hello

OK - I have the works Christmas do this weekend - and panic is setting in!!

My nails are basically never manicured or anything -never wear nail varnish - I'm a hands-on sort of person so cant really see the point.

But I've seen these false type nails in Sainsburys - should I splash out for them

Ditto for false eylashes?

I'm thinking my motivations for getting these things is that I'm feeling a bit insecure about being the crappiest looking one there. But Ive never worn either of these things before (well not for YEARS anyway).

Help needed!!!!!

there are some cheapo false nails in superdrug that last ages, they need filed down at the sides (Unless you have wide nails) but they look v natural.

Lauriefairyonthetreeeatscake · 11/12/2008 18:58

One of the nails will ping off the second you get there so don't bother - much more trouble than they are worth

Had a lot better luck with false eyelashes (unless you have sensitive eyes) but imo good mascara is so fab now they are pretty unnecessary.

I agree with laurie, those things come off so easily. Better off going and having professional tips put on.

I know lots of people who wear false nails very successfully, I can never manage it, but maybe have a trial run?
RE: false eyelashes, have never used them as wear contacts and am worried about irritation. I agree there are loads of mascaras which bild up your lashes. I had a great Lancome set, a white base coat then a black coat, my eyelashes nearly touched my eyebrows, very dramatic! I think you can alternatives (this was when I was earning good money!), in fact Bourjois do one which is supposedly just as good.

Sorry for typing

You are not being shallow, it's nice to go out and feel good about yourself, go for it!

SHHHHsantaiscoming · 11/12/2008 20:24

I don't think you are being shallow at all..

If it makes you feel good then why not..?

IMO I would have a set of professional nails done, extra cost but much better job imo and will last longer.

I have gel nails done every 3 ish weeks, I have my hair done every few months and I spend money on make up etc..does that make me shallow..? nope....just makes me feel good about myself on a daily basis .

Have a good night x

I agree! For christmas parties, why not layer on the glamour? I am not a false nails kind of girl, prefer the short, square nails with dark red/black nail varnis but the false eyelashes are lots of fun.

I have some from boots, and they are very easy to apply and give a very long fluttery lash effect. I know MAC do some great ones too but obviously, more £££.

nickytinseltimes · 11/12/2008 20:57

Not shallow at all.
You sound a bit like me - I feel like paying nay kind of attention to myself is ott, but it is not.
The nails can be a bit pingy-offish. There are DIY acrylic sets that are not bad, but it is time consumiming. The eyelashes will look great though and give you a boost.

cmotdibbler · 11/12/2008 21:06

I quite like the stick on nails, as you can paint them easily, and then just stick them on.

The important thing is not to wear control pants or tights, as thats when they will ping off, but otherwise fairly reliable these days, and don't damage your nails at all, unlike gels or acrylics.

They def make me feel dressed up.
