Can anyone recommend boots that are comfy, but sturdy and long lasting that I can walk for miles in, but also look okish for work?

I have these timberland boots that are on their third Winter. I was at the price but actually they were a sound investment as I've not needed another pair and don't forsee them wearing out anytime soon. Look good with a skirt and I have been wearing them for the last few days with jeans as they're pretty much the only waterproof shoes I have. I love them

I recently bought the Malmo boot from Duo - can't recommend it highly enough. And they do width fittings too. They are soooo comfy. Not cheap but I think they will last and last. here they are

I'd go for a decent pair of walking boots tbh. I have a karrimor pair that have had for nearly 10 years and are only now on their last legs. TKMAXX do really good bargains in walking boots if you get there at the right time.

CuddlyUnderTheMistletoe · 11/12/2008 16:19

These have done me proud for the last 4 years.

But some of these might be a little more stylish. I have some merrell walking shoes that are about 5 or 6 years old and still in amazing condition despite being worn constantly.

I second Duo boots, comfy as anything
I got these and wear them all the time, everywhere.

littlelamb · 11/12/2008 17:14

Bum, they are the Lexis tall boots.

littlelamb · 11/12/2008 17:15

The ones Cristiana linked to in fact

Not sure about how long lasting the duo malmo will be as only just got them but the quality is great. one snag might be they will be difficult to re-heel as have moulded sole. In shop though they said I will be ready to buy new pair before need re-heeling and their service was so superb that i believed them!

GrimmaTheNome · 11/12/2008 19:15

at the notion of boots only now being on their last legs... how many previous owners?

domesticslattern · 13/12/2008 20:08

Went to Duo in London today on the strength of these recommendations. Completely rammed (MNers?) and the famed fabulous service was shite. (Is it me?) Also the £20 off everything code had just finished last week , though there is free delivery at the mo.

I did find a lovely pair of boots which actually fit, and which I'll use to walk a couple of miles a day to and from the childminders. But I can also wear them in the office hopefully too. So they are probably a bit smarter than what OP wants but still worth mentioning.

lovely boots - the ankle strap is detatchable

This is a total revelation after trekking round Dune, Hobbs, LK Bennett etc. trying on boots which gape so much they look like wellies on me.

I would say that Dune also had some decent boots and so if you are lucky and they fit you, then might be good.

more lovely boots - more casual

cloudydaze · 13/12/2008 23:05

I'm on my second pair of Duos Malmo boots, first pair lasted two winters. They actually became too loose on the ankles & so there was no support. Also I must have stretched the tops of them (did wear through a pregnancy & I do swell up when preg) as they were falling down too.
Saying that I did like them enough to buy another pair recently & do find them comfy.
Whilst I don't have those Timberland boots Christiana sent a link for I have worn Timberlands for many years & always found them to be brilliant, both in support but also they last for ages (& even brilliant in snow, feet stay nice & warm!)
Christiana, out of interest do you think those Timberlands would fit chunky calves?

littlelamb · 14/12/2008 00:14

Cloudy- I have those boots and am, well, chunky of calf, and they are an excellent fit. And I really struggle to find boots that I can even get on

ggirlsbells · 14/12/2008 01:22

If you wear trousers then blundstone boots are really hard wearing and very comfy too.

CocoaCloset · 14/12/2008 01:25

My Uggs are onto their 4th year of being worn oct-feb and are still going strong.

zazen · 14/12/2008 01:36

Anything Ecco - they have amazing soles you can walk and stand all day and your feet are 'rested feeling' at the end of the day - heels or flats - they're amazing!

twentypence · 14/12/2008 05:59

I have a lovely pair of boots by Dr Marten (but fashion ones with a zip) and they have walked miles and miles and still look new.

cloudydaze · 14/12/2008 10:46

Thanks littlelamb, might have to check them out then!

Swedes · 14/12/2008 15:50

These look great and are extremely comfortable (read the reviews) and cost only £35

ggirlsbells · 14/12/2008 16:20

swedes -op needs to walk 5 miles a day in them.

Swedes · 14/12/2008 20:39

Ah sorry. How about a pair of MBT shoes apparently they are brilliantly comfortable.

prideandprejudice · 14/12/2008 21:56

I have marvellous Birkenstock Garda boots - fine with a skirt I reckon and you can walk miles in them. Bit pricey but I got them after I admired a friend's pair and she confessed they were in their fourth year. www.birkenstock.co.uk/index.php?m=catalogue&a=vw_prod&wprid=70
