Anyone know where I can find knickerbockers for little boys?

I quite often put ds (10 months) in track suit bottoms as they are comfy for wearing with a cloth nappy and have elasticated waists. I just can't bear 'man trousers' for babies; you know in stiff fabrics, straight up and down cut, with buttons and zips - so restrictive.

Anyway, do any of you style mums know where I can find corduroy or velvet bloomers for those 'smarter' occasions? I know it's old fashioned but I heart them...

Not velvet or corduroy, but would these do? Click on the "more pictures" link for a better idea. They do some lovely velvet or terry towelling trousers too. I just posted another thread about their special offers and I think I saw those striped trousers there too in other colours - if so they're about half the price.

Love those stripy bottoms My2Monkeys, and deckhalls - he would look like one of the von Trapp children - not necessarily a bad thing...

Shhh - everyone copies me dontcha know

Swedes · 10/12/2008 17:25

I don't like tots in manly trousers either. I buy shorts that are for 6-12 months bigger than the tot. So for my 18 month old I buy age 2-3 shorts (I have heavy denim, soft navy moleskin, chestnut cord, white cotton). I put navy, brown or green thick tights underneath and he looks marvellous.

Some in La Redoute

mitfordsisters · 10/12/2008 18:53

Swedes, you are talking my language - sounds scrummy - I'll look for shorts. Like those redoute ones too - they have good designs don't they, that label, though never ventured.

someone linked this site the other day

Dottoressa · 10/12/2008 19:06

Rachel Riley?? I had a gorgeous Rachel Riley wool and silk bonnet for DD when she was a baby...

Swedes · 10/12/2008 20:19

LOL at that Tulip & Nettle website - it looks like the young Bullingdon club.

southeastastra · 10/12/2008 21:05

sooper aren't they

elsiepiddock · 10/12/2008 21:10

I think you'll find them in 1901.

Lulumama · 10/12/2008 21:13

break into liz hurley's mansion and riffle through il Damien's wardrobe.

sorted

Dottoressa · 10/12/2008 22:16

Ohhhhhhh... Tulip and Nettle is heaven. It's probably just as well the DCs would now refuse to wear such things, or I would be bankrupt. They're precisely the kinds of things they had when they were babies/toddlers...

southeastastra · 10/12/2008 22:18

i loved the clothes on tulip and nettle

Swedes · 10/12/2008 23:07

Yes, some of T & N clothes are lovely. But it is a bit Bullingdon Club especially if they sit next to another small boy wearing wearing Thomas The Tank track suit at pre-school. Or 'If Mum Says No I Ask Nan' logo t-shirt.

Swedes · 10/12/2008 23:10

And doesn't a full T&N ensemble look a bit like the mother is trying far too hard? A pair of oversized shorts teamed with a pair of girl's navy tights gives you a similar look but it's more effortless rake than Bullingdon twit.

southeastastra · 10/12/2008 23:16

what is the bullingdon club?

goodasgoldfrankincenceandmyrhh · 10/12/2008 23:17

Or 'here comes trouble' Swedes.

I can't believe how fussy I am about ds's clothes. So many boys clothes are horrid. My mum and I were shopping for him on Saturday and I kept saying, 'no, he wouldn't like them' 'no he wouldn't wear that'

He is 7 mths old.

Swedes · 10/12/2008 23:20

Bullingdon Club
