How so you shave your underarms?

I know but well I was thinking about this morning when I was in the shower and thought I would ask, just in case I was missing something obvious...

I have dark hair, but am not overly hairly IYKWIM. I shave under my arms, using gel type stuff (gillette) and a gillette venus razor. The problem is no matter which way I shave - up/down/dide to side or how new the razor is it never looks totally smooth.

Am I missing something?

epilate instead...hurts like hell first couple of times but you don't get stubble and it last longer and your skin is baby soft

Do you have to leave it a certain amount of time in between for "growth" like waxing?

yes but only 2mms really

Dropdeadfred · 09/12/2008 16:06

oh...after first time i just run the epilator over once a week regardless of growth...the growth is thiner too...

Bramshott · 09/12/2008 16:09

Does it need to be totally smooth GM?!? You are clearly very groomed, unlike me with my carefully cultivated "dragged through a hedge backwards" look! I had always thought underarm skin was just kind of pimply . . .

Dropdeadfred · 09/12/2008 16:10

mine is smooth in a way it never was whilst shaving regularly...

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 09/12/2008 16:12

I use Immac, I have my legs sugared but never been brave enough to so armpits.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 09/12/2008 16:13

If you want to carry on shaving then good quality shaving gel, a good razor and only in the direction of the hair growth (so usually upwards) is the key.

Anna8888 · 09/12/2008 16:15

I epilate. Much better.

geordieminx · 09/12/2008 16:33

Looks like epilating is the way to go then.......

Maybe I should epilate there as well - have recently realised that epilating legs is better.

clarebear1 · 09/12/2008 18:01

I shave dry with a disposable bic razor, you're prob all gonna say thats really bad but hey!

southeastastra · 09/12/2008 18:03

ouch i immaced my armpits once, they were red raw for days

BroccoliSpears · 09/12/2008 18:03

Is epilating better than waxing then?

Which epilator do you epilatees recommend?

harpomarx · 09/12/2008 18:04

wax them, much smoother and pretty easy to do yourself. Wax first up then down (or vice versa, doesn't really matter). Lasts ages, no hideous underarm razor stubble.

I am also dark-haired and not overly hairy on (in?) my underarms (though am everywhere else!)
